NEWS Payne Haas retracts immediate release from Broncos then

I could see this coming years ago with Payne. Nothing wrong with him chasing the dollar, but its how he is going about it i dont like. Staggs was exactly the same except he was off contract. The only thing keeping him here was that he failed to get an offer as good as ours.

People will probably say i've got it in for them ( which i dont mind, i dont think much of either as people, they are just quality players ) but maybe now others may see why i felt that way. The tides turning at Brisbane and we are at the stage where if blokes like Haas leave it wont be a massive blow anymore because we are actually a team again instead of a group of individuals.

Payne Haas is contracted to the Brisbane Broncos until the end of the 2024 NRL Season. The Club will not be entertaining a release.

The Club remains in ongoing discussions with Payne’s management about what the next phase looks like for him at the Broncos.

That includes ongoing dialogue about an extension to his current contract.

The correct move. It reminds Payne who holds all the cards, and that to get a release he needs to give something in return. This normally means whichever club wants to sign him will need to horse trade.

If Payne plays tomorrow, I hope the crowd gives him an absolute serve every time he touches the ball. He deserves it.

I know for a fact if he pulled this shit at the football club i support then he would never come back from it. I can accept people leave clubs, but you either wait until your contract is up or you do it with some dignity, not come across like a mercenary. Respect the club you are at.

Love DD. Right move, no release, honour your deal, play on.

More than happy to release him if it means we can sign someone that's worth it, but I don't think there's any remotely good signings off contract, maybe release him 1 year early and we sign someone for 2024. Otherwise play it out, tough shit.

I'll wait and see how that actually plays out. SBW didn't get a release either.

He shouldn't be in the clubs plan beyond next year so let's see that money going to guys like Kobe, Oates, Jensen and Carrigan. And not even entertain negotiations with Khoder.

Also don't know why we keep quoting the 950k figure, his salary has been published in court so there's no need to speculate.

Court documents allege Haas is earning $748,000 this season before his salary increases to $798,000 in 2023 and $848,000 the next year.

Release him for 2024 because that's when the value isn't really there. Either we upgrade someone internally or we go to market for 2024 for a hooker/fullback/halfback.

Well FFS this is really disappointing . We are building our brand again , so KW sit these blokes down and read them ALL the fucking riot act . You young men are all privileged to be representing this Club, so if you don't have belief in the Broncos , then there's the fucking door , the Broncos have brought you through, and invested in you a great opportunity Payne Hass , and got YOU out of the shit when you were up to your fucking ears in it , and helped you build YOUR fucking future , so I say , remove him immediately from the roster . Excommunicate him from the Kevolution.

Dobbo talking to Adam Reynolds on triple M right now about Payne.

Here are the numbers New Corp are quoting. They're probably right.

CURRENT
2022: $750,000.
2023: $850,000
2024: $950,000
Club sponsored car: $25,000 per year

EXTENSION OFFER
2025: $1,050,000
2026: $1,050,000
2027: $1,050,000

What Payne wants now: $1,000,000
What Payne wants by 2024: $1,200,000
Imagine telling you team mates. ‘Hey boys, I know I’ll be the highest paid player at the club next year. And I know a few of you boys are really rolling up you sleeves and putting in for your shitty $250k a year. But you know, I still want more so fu@k ya’s.’

The fact that he is not happy with these numbers, playing in a side that is on the up and will inevitably play finals, says a lot about his character and priorities to me.

I think the $950k is refering to the contract upgrade we have offered. Could be getting my wires crossed though.
