POST GAME [2022 State of Origin - Game I] NSW vs QLD

Don't know whether Burton is better option than Staggs but he'll go well.

Angus Crichton is a good pick, should've been there for game 1.

Just like game 1 if our starters keep the game close our bench is a great chance of getting us on top. Grant, Carrigan, Collins and Nanai all in terrific form.

I would like to see Arrow start in the 13 jersey over Patty... not because Patty can't handle it, but because it was him that really changed the game for us in Game 1 and it's best to keep it that way.

Also Patty will have a target on his back after what he did in Game 1, starting him makes it easier for the NSW pack to get at him, whereas if he's coming off the bench they may already be fatigued or he'll be going up against the bench forwards who look a little weaker coming into this game.

This. It would be madness to change what worked so well in game 1. As you've said, he literally changed the game when he came on.

Koroisau is a good change IMO. Cook can't play the 80 anymore and having a fresh quality hooker in Origin makes all the difference.
Talakai on the bench is shit though.

Burton, Koroisau, Crichton and Jake T would be good ins IMO

All Qld will need to do is keep it tight until the benches come on and Qld will blow them away...unless NSW have been told something about the reffing QLd hasn't.

No way there is less than ten 6 agains blown after all the whinging, probably one in the first set or two to set the tone

**** it... if you're Qld you keep playing the same way even if they do ping you with a couple phantoms.

If the ref blows the pea out of the whistle he knows he'll be raked across the coals after the game, so at some point he'll have to put it away.

The frustrating thing is this narrative has been created because the Qld bench completely destroyed their opposites... Pat and Collins won every tackle they were involved in.

NSW decided to piss and moan because the back rowers they picked as props were getting dominated by proper middle forwards so it must be someone else's fault. They have given **** all credit to how much Pat, Collins and Harry destroyed their middle

Freddy is just a shit coach that has been blessed for a couple years as Qld had to transition from their legendary team and he had generational players in Turbo, Cleary and Latrell available to him.

Freddy has the best 3-4 fullbacks available to him (Teddy, Turbo, Latrell and Paps),
the best player in the game (Cleary),
the best prop (Haas),
the best lock (Yeo and Murray),
the best second rower (Crichton)
the best winger (To'o)

And he still can't completely dominate origin.. how much more fucking help does he need

So they dropped Staggs because he didn’t come in to take hit ups? Is burton going to be doing it? Not really familiar with his game.

Crichton is effectively taking Staggs spot and he does get involved in the yardage game, but if they dump Tupou for JAC they end up cancelling each other out anyway.

Yeah and I dunno if either side is really advantaged by a quicker game...both look pretty mobile to me.

Reckon Burton sends some bombs Cobbo's way?
Not going to be as easy from left centre.

Who's our left winger because he'll be the one copping them?

It would be a set play where Burton is there as a second option if Cleary is pressured.

But it's not like Cleary is some slouch who can't put up torp bombs... he's got the best kicking game in the comp

Hope that's true, might be a wake up call for him. He's way too passive in games.

He seemed to try it a bit more against the storm the other night. Probably knew the writing was on the wall for origin.

He's never been all that great at hitups against set defensive lines, but I would like for him to get involved if there's a quick play the ball on offer.

Let Oates and co. take the hitups into the meat of the defence, but if there's a quick one give Staggs the license to take off from dummy half against a retreating defence.

He could also get better at taking hitups back inside on unders lines. I think he has the potential to do those Fifita type runs back in field when there's not much happening... just need someone to float across field and drop him under to go back at the middle defence when they're all flat footed.

off the ball, Staggs is closer to Renouf than Hodges IMO.

Hodges was all about going looking for the ball and getting into dummy half for a quick dart, While Pearl waited for the opportunity by being presented with early ball.

however once the ball is in Staggs hands, he then becomes closer to Hodges style instead of the Pearls. where Pearl relied on good footwork, good line running and genuine pace to beat his opponents, Hodges relied on his strength to get in the clear
