Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2022

I have and I'm still yet to work out what you're on about. A club option simply gives both club and player a chance to re-sign on the same terms for another year without the need to go through the sit down and everything else that goes with it.

If a player says, hey don't worry about the 3rd year, i'm leaving/retiring/off to become a beatnik, great. If they want to stay, great, no negotations to be had. I'm not sure I've seen a scenario in recent times where a club has forcefully exercised a club option to keep a player against their will. Not in this sport anyway - in others where there's trade or transfer value, yes it does.
You're describing a player option that the club can opt out of. It makes no sense and it's not going to happen. Ever.

I'm not getting into a semantics game. Club options have been around forever and will be used in the future, bank on it.

Incorrect. It is happening.

See Sam Lisone at NRL level.

A mutual option is a another club friendly version

Donaghy won't be doing any brand of option.

@McHunt

Don't forget Melbourne with Addo-Carr, Grant, Munster and B.Smith.

Donuts specifically said no more options.

You'll have to remind me of that.

No more player options would be fine but mutual and club options don't carry the unwanted baggage that a PO would.

before someone asks about the nothing Badel article re: Reece Walsh, here is what he says:
  • Walsh is keeping an open mind about his future
  • Walsh dropped a bombshell on us last year when he sensationally quit the club to sign a $1.3 million deal with the Warriors.
  • he has a get out "welfare" clause in his contract for the 2024 season if he can't adjust to life in NZ
  • Walsh is happy at the Warriors, but hasn't ruled out a comeback to us
  • we've made no secret of our desire for Walsh to return to Red Hill

Reece Walsh says

“I am signed with the Warriors for next year and I have to worry about playing good footy and when you play good footy, decisions come off the back of it,” he said.

“I have to sit down with my family and go through things.

“I am not thinking too far ahead. I am here in camp with the Queensland boys and enjoying myself.

“I head to New Zealand next week and I am really excited for all the boys who haven’t been home for a while. They get to see their families and it will be awesome for them. It will be an emotional time for the Kiwi boys.

“I enjoyed my time at the Broncos. I came through there and I was only in the NRL system for a couple of months. I made a lot of good friendships there and I’m in camp now with (Broncos trio) Corey Oates, Tom Flegler and Pat Carrigan.

“I have a lot of good mates there and I’m happy the Broncos are going well.

“Right now, I am focused on the Warriors … they have been good to me.”

How's it going playing for the 15th placed Warriors Walsh? Playing in front of 40000 at Suncorp for a top 4 contender would be better eh?

How exactly have we made it no secret we want him back? What is Badel basing this on?

Poor form. I'd be pretty annoyed if I was a Warriors fan, well, one more thing to be annoyed about anyway.

I feel bad for their fans but the warriors deserve everything they get. To be fair their fans can’t be too surprised given he is the type of character that happily left the club that developed him before playing a game for them and viewed being asked to develop in qcup for at least a few games beneath him.

I don't get these teams. You look around the nrl and you can see the teams with squads full of players with poor attitudes finish bottom yet here are the warriors recruiting Walsh, lodge, AFB, etc and expecting a different result. Same with the bulldogs. Yes, they are talented players for sure. And yes, the top teams have 1 or 2 of them. And yes they can play great footy for a few weeks. But attitude and effort is what gets you places in the nrl more than most leagues of any sport in the world.
Yet here they are, recruiting on talent and forgiving their attitudes.
I don't know Reece Walsh but his actions SCREAM wanker with a poor attitude (have heard similar) and if that attitude means the rest of the squad MIGHT play with 1% less effort I guarantee we lose more games then if we didn't have him. If he isn't what he appears (unlikely) then sure, go get him... for the right price and with an apology
