You're describing a player option that the club can opt out of. It makes no sense and it's not going to happen. Ever.I have and I'm still yet to work out what you're on about. A club option simply gives both club and player a chance to re-sign on the same terms for another year without the need to go through the sit down and everything else that goes with it.
If a player says, hey don't worry about the 3rd year, i'm leaving/retiring/off to become a beatnik, great. If they want to stay, great, no negotations to be had. I'm not sure I've seen a scenario in recent times where a club has forcefully exercised a club option to keep a player against their will. Not in this sport anyway - in others where there's trade or transfer value, yes it does.
