They will probably go ok, they will treat it like an international or something. Depends on the quality of the squads each team bothers sending because if star players get a season ending injury there are gonna be some pissed off coaches. If the prize money is enough I’m sure the clubs that could use some extra dosh and take it seriously though.

The NRL prize money is minimal, so can't imagine a pre-season tournament will be much at all

reportedly the Panthers received just 200k for winning this year's NRL title; plus another 100k for the minor premiership. in comparison the AFL premiers took home $1 million in prize money

although the Panthers boss complained about it in the media , which ensured a reaction from the NRL. Abdo claiming next years will be significantly higher. 800k for the Premiership and 200k for the minor premiership

I have a vague memory of the reason ours has always been low because poorer clubs would kick up a stink if the roosters or us or some other well off club would win it.

they also apparently cut the prize money during COVID, but never returned it to normal levels like other sports

My issue with a pre-season cup that teams are supposed to take seriously and send full squads to is the number of games being played. What I want more than anything is a 'draw' that is as fair as possible. What we have now is a joke.

For 100% fairness, each team needs to play each other team twice, and Origin needs to be standalone weekends and not take players out of teams. This isn't going to happen, and especially for the first point, we are told it's because we can't make the season longer and have players playing too many games.

But now we will add in a pre-season cup, which makes them play more games and extends the league playing 'season'

NRL had plans to take Round 1 of the comp over to the US, but it's not happening now.

There are certain people at clubs getting in the way and it needs to stop.

Wasn't it just one game and they offered it to a number of clubs with them turning it down? It's also a pre-season game and they're going to reward competition points which sounds unfair.

If you take every game of the round there, then sure do it but if it is only some teams, it is pointless and unfair.

As always, a good idea not thought through.

If I was in charge of marketing I would take the broncos and the cowboys and play them at Dallas nfl homeground. How many stupid Americans would buy tickets?

It actually would be a great idea to line up an NRL game as a curtain opener to a NFL game featuring 2 teams of the same name.

Any combination of the below would work:

Panthers
Cowboys
Broncos
Raiders
Bangals/Tigers
Dolphins

The crowds would be huge and although it would purely be a novelty the fans would be invested for the moment to cheer on their namesake.

Logistically impossible, as the lines on the fields are different as are the posts

Doesn’t the nfl use edible line markings or holographic shit or HD tv screens or something for their turf these days?

Are we talking like icing sugar or just flour or something?

9m shorter and 7m thinner isn’t an impossible difference - it would be a non-season exhibition match for the NRL teams. The goal posts also essentially serve the same purpose. Ie Kick a ball between them.

I think it would be hectic. Imagine a Panthers v Cowboys game at this stadium (pic didn’t upload. Just google the Carolina Panthers stadium).

You could have the Rock or Jason Mamao do a little video spiel around all the Samoan players in the penrith team.

Except it’s a complete anomaly tbh. A pipe dream. Why would nfl advertise a rival code trying to impeach on their market? Imagine the qld reds curtain raising at Suncorp. Yuk.

It’s obviously a pipe dream but an int we sting thought none the less. I don’t think the NFL would be worried about little old rugby league invading their market. If anything it would be good advertisement for NFL in Australia as a summer sport viewing option

Call Manly the Seahawks just for a one off, I have been to Washington and I tell you what.. they aren't the brightest bunch
