NEWS Dodgy Deal: Broncos accused of deception by Schoolboys captain

And just for the record mate, I don't think you are wrong in what you are stating either, but I don't think I am either at the same time because every case is different. Speaking about two situations i know about, When Opacic got a release it worked for everyone and there were no dramas. When lodge was released he didn't want to go and basically got forced out. He didn't really have any choice but to go when he was stuffed around first by Walters then basically told he wouldn't be playing if he stayed. Both situations where the club did the right thing by a player and shit on another because it suited them to get him out.
I get your point. I’m not talking about from an emotional perspective though. That sucks for Lodge but the club is within their right to do that as long as they honour their end of the deal and pay him the money they agreed to, which they did. Lodge could’ve chosen to stay and play reserve grade and still get paid. Regardless of the outcome he gets what he was promised - an agreed upon monitory amount.

If Haas leaves what does the club get? Nothing. It’s sad that we dont get to keep him but business isn’t about emotions. It’s about honouring legally binding contracts. If Haas left but we were still somehow ensured that a prop of the exact equal amount would slot straight into his spot than I wouldn’t care.

A contract with the broncos isn’t a promise to play first grade for the broncos for a certain duration, it’s a promise not to play for another team unless permitted by the broncos for a certain duration.

Lodge would have lost a fair bit if he stayed tbf, he would just keep his base salary. Most players of his ability don't want to play Qcup either so its a no win situation really for him. From my perspective you don't treat a player poorly to get him out the door same as you don't throw a hissy fit if the club won't give you what you want. Works both ways for me.

Ooh soccer fans are sensitive. Insulting the sport you guys enjoy doesn't mean I'm insulting you, you dork.
brother relax. i'm not insulted and I've joked with you in the past that you hate everything. it's all good chief.

What about this for a stupid idea. If a player wants to break contract without the club's permission, the offending club has to DOUBLE the player's existing contract and the amount on top of the existing contract goes straight to the player's current club for spending elsewhere.

So let's say Haas is on 950k, the Roosters want him for 1.2 million for some reason. Haas can break his contract but the Broncos get an extra 250k on to their salary cap.

Or Papenheuzen is signed on at 600k, the Roosters offer him 1.2 million and he takes it, so now an extra 600k goes on to the Storm salary cap as well.

This is a stupid idea BUT it would actually validate the Storm's cheating.

So in the end, the Storm still beat everyone.

Does it work in reverse though??

Rorters would be signing Haas for a pie and coke, so do we have to wear -$950k on our cap 🤔🤔🤔

No. The only way a player can be released from a contract is for the poaching club to pay the player double his existing salary unless it is instigated by the existing club

Oloapu:
"I just want a release and a chance to play football," .

"I can promise you one thing: I will never play for Brisbane as long as I live.

"They have broken promises to me and left me broken-hearted."

Also claims that the broncos have lied about being cleared of any wrong doing. Salary cap auditor says it’s still being investigated:

"We are still looking into the matter; no final determination has been made,"

Isn’t he 17? Why would we give him a top 30 spot if he can’t even play NRL?

Bye Karl ...

Broncos would need an exemption like the Roosters did with Sua'ali'i.

If the promise of a top 30 spot was made, sack the person that made it because they don't know what they're doing.

His agent right now.

I would tell him if he applies himself and shows a good attitude we will consider a release at the end of the 2023 season pending a suitable trade offer from the club he’s going too

From what I can gather the so-called "promise" of a top 30 spot related to "in 2023" not for "all of 2023." I understand he will turn 18 sometime this year. Blake Mozer was added to the Top 30 this year, so it's not necessarily an outrageous ambition for the kid, but to "promise" it is a bit steep.

I guess it's possible they encouraged him to think that to get him to sign. The club has a known track record of sweetening negotiations with hypnotic gestures - like future captain (Payne), playing in the halves (Kotoni), shot at fullback (Herbie) - that don't always pan out.
