Cobbo: “I think he’s a nice guy but not a good coach”

How long does Kebbie have to prove he's more than just a good friend?

It was a terrible interview, all told.

Thats the bottom line....
it was hard to telll who the bigger idiot was. Cobbo or the Kiwi fuckhead interviewing him

Its ALL should have been taken with a grain of salt IMO......

No doubt if the season was off and running....we wouldn;t still be talking about it.

It was an appalling interview, and what possessed Selwyn to agree to do it is beyond my comprehension. Bear in mind that he's an a-List sporting celebrity in this town, who could walk into any top rating newsreel TV program and tell his entire life story. He doesn't need to do this amateur hour garbage.

As for the interviewer, that one question, the only thing newsworthy in the entire 90 minutes was chucked in at the end as an afterthought, a question from a friend. It was clear the Kiwi knew nothing about Selwyn and nothing about rugby league. He just wanted to blather about New Zealand.

Given Selwyn's candour, any interviewer interested in the Broncos would've asked him:

1. What's Kevvie like as a coach?
2. Is that the feeling in the dressing room?
3. How do you feel about his son getting picked each week?
4. Do many players want to leave?

You know, shit like that.

If he wants to do a friendly podcast as fan service that won't get him in any strife, do David Mead. He would have had the decency to edit out the gaffes.

I would be way more impressed if the club could land someone of Cameron Smith's stature as a junior assistant.
Yup, this. But, is “junior assistant” a thing?

On a different note, I so wish that given DD had some relation to Cam Smith from their Storm days, he had some deep conversations & persuade him to join our coaching staff at some capacity. BUT, it’s not the case to be.

I don’t think Billy or Cam would coach against Melbourne in any way.

We already have the coach who loves the club and everyone loves him. But maybe we might need a different type of coach, one who cares about winning more than being loved. One who the players respect more than like. I don't know.

If Bennett can leave the Broncos to coach St George, anyone can coach any club, I think. It's a profession, and coach of the Broncos is top tier in that profession.

I am sure lots of people get in his ear but at the end of the day, he made the decision to go to Sydney and make it happen.

He did, but the fact that Reynolds wasn't even on his radar to begin with despite the glaring issue we had at halfback says something.

Wayne convinced Reyno to sign with the broncos. It doesn’t exactly
take a genius recruiter to think Adam Reynolds would improve the broncos

I was totally on board with this opinion, I thought every single player except Turpin had improved and then the truly epically bad end of season fade out happened and now I'm just not sure.

The issue also is that he hasn't gone and actively sought out high calibre new assistants as he was basically told to do by management. Who knows much about Briars? I watch a lot of Super League and I know very little about him other than the team he was at is pretty consistently good but how much of that is down to him?

On top of that, the decent depth we had last year is gone this year and we are back to relying on kids again. On top of that, one his super promising kids has actively outed him as a bad coach and no one really has come out and vehemently defended him. Don't get me wrong, there have certainly been some messages of support but no one that I am aware of has come out and basically said Cobbo was wrong and Kevvie is a great coach, all they seem to have done is said he is ok and is learning like they are.

I want Kevvie to succeed and I am certainly not one of the posters who have been calling for his head since the moment he signed his son but I am also not blind, the question marks there day 1 of his arrival are all seemingly still there now three years later. That is concerning.
I’m not suggesting you are including me in those comments but I just want to be clear that Billy Walters is the least of my worries regarding Kev. That has very little influence over my opinions of him.

although, if we're talking about Hasler ... He'd actually be right for a change.

look at what's happened to all clubs Hasler has had full control over. it's just a matter of time before they implode (especially in regards to their salary caps)
It almost sounds like a carbon copy of when Bennett leaves clubs.

I wasn't saying we should get Hasler or anything just that I doubt our board will give away power to satisfy a coach like him who will demand it.

You may be riding a wave of self satisfaction after tearing into Kev for longer then most and now it looks bad for him, but this is rediculious.

I reckon Adam would have asked for Wayne's insight into the club, I very highly doubt Wayne's first recommendation was to join us. This was a guy we moved on and it was a nasty period for all involved.

I don't think you can possibly know that, we've all spoken about how Kev talks to the media and says one thing but then the complete opposite will take place.

What's to say he didn't say something to the media right after he booked a plane to Sydney to go and speak to Adam?

There's a bit of Manly about the Broncos, whether or not we want to admit it.

Every other club's set of fans hates us. They get more joy seeing us get belted than they do seeing their own team win. Des loves that sort of environment I feel, he was great for Manly before he set off to the Doggies.

Speaking of cam smith, makes a bit more sense him retiring from origin the way he did now.
he pulled the pin because he wanted to retire with another premiership and mentally wasn't invested in origin, and he earned that right.

This team looks good man, they should be comfortably in the 8 this season dependent on injuries.
