POST GAME PSC - Broncos vs Cowboys

I posted this earlier - apologies - but if you need a reminder of why Herbie is problematic at centre, skip to around the 48:57 mark. This is exactly why I was riding his back in 2021. He has the top strike winger in the competition outside him but he opts to shun him, turn it back inside and completely kill the momentum. I would be seeing red if I were Oates in his position. This shit really gets on my goat:

a good amount of people have complained about Kevvie trialing too many people in contentious positions oiver the last two pre-seasons (5/8 last year, and hooker this year).

fullback is not even a contentious position.

Walsh is our first choice by a long way; he trialled Cobbo last night (getting some reps into his legs in case he has to play their in round 1) and Sailor has also played 2 trials (mostly at the back).

so Kevvie has trialled 3 players at least at fullback during this pre-season
Id sooner play sailer at fullback than Cobbo. He needs to be promoted to the top 30 he looks pretty good

48 .50 of the vid .
Selwyn sends Dearden flying on his arse with a fend . LOL .

From what I've seen from Madden I think he is a 6 not a 7, he doesn't demand the ball which is a must for the role, say what you want about Gamble but he is the type of player you need to make sure you make the right decisions on the last.

I felt in the game before, Sailor would even be better suited to being a 7 if your pairing a second choice half with Mam.

Madden is a good player though and I can see a really good runner in him as he has alot of speed and footwork, but at this stage of his career he looks like more of a 6.

Even off the bench you might be on after two minutes. Being on the bench doesn't assure you 15 minutes at the end up 24-0 against the Tigers.

I have seen people naming him on the bench for round one.

His next challenge is to move up consistently to Cup and not need to go back to Colts for a break and start ISC games.

Yep...playing/starting ISC each week is a must for his development. I'd rather see him spend most of the season there...with maybe an NRL chance in the back end of the year.

I was assuming @Sproj was joking earlier when he named him in his latest Rd1 NRL 17......

Dunno.....I reckon he could have swapped Cobbo and Herbie for a period.....

I wonder if some of the pre-season drama was at play there....

Said that before the game. If Herbie doesn't get his shot in the trial, that has to be the dream over. Unless Walters is going to use this season as an extended trial like the last two.

But either way, every fan could see Selwyn was out of puff, what was Kevvie thinking? Was he leaving him on to prove he wasn't fit enough?

except you would have, but nice try with the positivity 👍
I didn’t complain at all about the other 2 games, other than leaving Walsh on too long which if anything is consistent with my comment that Cobbo didn’t need the full 80.

I trust the mods will respond correctly to Pagey derailing the thread with baseless personal comments.

oh no , please don't let them.

So just don't be a hypercritical **** then!
Just love him FFS!
🤣🤣🤣

I do agree though, he's still 5 to 10% away from being perfect👍

Genuine question...
If you could swap him with anyone, who would you rather have?

Yeo.

Oates is too deep. He gets the ball, the Cowboys right edge take him over the sideline. Maybe Oates makes a few extra metres, maybe he doesn’t. Herbie opted to not take that risk and bring it back in-field.

I wouldn’t swap him for anyone. I’m just saying his passing was below the standard he has set for himself. No need to jump to any conclusions about me not wanting him at the club
Wasn't jumping to conclusions mate, was just a conversation point.
I agree, I can't think of anyone better either.

Nope. Not buying it. Seen Herbie do that too many times and it always goes the same way. A good centre would've set his winger up in the corner. Maybe Oates wouldn't have scored, but at least give him a go.

The difference between us and a top 4/8 team... the sharks will have at least one person around the legs on every tackle in yardage sets... actually probably one in every tackle that happens in the middle of the field ...

we're lucky to have one across a set
