Is Mariner really worth a million more than he's getting from us? If so, we have a hell of a bargain, but at the moment I don't see it. But I guess they'd be happy to pay on potential.

I don't really blame the kid in all of this, he might genuinely love the Broncos and want to stay, but it's also very hard to turn down a significant pay increase and immediate opportunity to play first grade. The latter doesn't necessarily make the former untrue.

He wasn't in the Top 30 last season; so if you offered him a four-year deal and it was $300k it wouldn't be hard to hit a million more.

He's moved into the top 30 now and played NRL too so this year and next year will be more money from Broncos.

Avoiding the evidence is just having nothing in writing.

The conversations between clubs and managers wouldn't need to bother with covert discussions either... they'd just be off the record and completely up front.

Dolphins: when is Mariner off contract?
Manager: end of 2024
Dolphins: cool ... before you sign anything let us know because we want to offer him 3 years at $500k. Also if he's free earlier than that we'd happily take him on.

That's it... that's all that would need to be said from the Dolphins to give the manager an understanding of what Dolphins will pay.

The manager then goes to the club not so much to seek a release then and there they request for an opportunity to talk to other clubs and if an opportunity arises they'd then want a release.

Justification for the release is that Mariner is down the list and wants an opportunity to play.

Manager already knows he has something lined up with the Dolphins.

Same thing happened with Turps except he couldn't find a club...

Broncos release players to grant them opportunities elsewhere, Gamble and Isaako last year
I know it’s not the thread for it; but Milford, Isaako and Niu in the same team again.

I almost want to put in the effort to watch Dolphins games this season just to see the implosions.

Yep all this is true and there isn't currently a clear pathway for him into the first team either, so you can even understand him wanting to go elsewhere for said opportunity.

It would be $1m total contract values

So his current deal might be 2yr @ $250k... but dolphins offering 3yr @ $500k.... = $1m difference

Yeah, I understand it wasn't a straight million more, I was just generalising - much like the media does...

Am I right in thinking Train and Trial is finished now?

Hey guys how's it going? Just dropped in to say that Cory Paix is a better halfback than Jock Madden. Cheers

@McHunt where did you see badel say TC has actually been sacked? Anyone know what money he was on?

You know that is going to be entertainment. Isaako is a genius for chaos.

I can't keep up with the NRL squad system. I was never entirely sure on when the official deadline was but I was under the impression that clubs had to announce twenty-nine players before they could announce their Round 1 teams on Tuesday.

So often you'd see clubs hold onto players only to release them straight after to meet that deadline. I'm sure there's some explanation about Robati being paid x amount so the Broncos don't have to meet the requirement but I'd still like to see more clarity.

I'm surprised that neither Te Kura or O'Ofou were named. It's especially odd for Te Kura since he was photographed in the official team photo. I'm going to presume he's on a deal but they won't lock him into a development deal since there are no immediate plans for him.

Unless Te Kura is the 29th player? I sure hope so, really don't want to lose him.

Bloody hell ikin is a smart operator...

28 man squad with 4 on development list. I think he has left 2 spots open pending injuries more than even a random signing from somewhere.

Paix, Walters or mozer injured than smoothy in
Walsh, cobbo or arthurs injured than sailor in
Mam, Reynolds or madden injured than sailor/rogers in
Capewell, riki or piakura injured than frei in

No rush, no panic. Just planning and waiting for every scenario..

Taupau was a great late signing too, but I do wish we had a middle option in the development list too. 2 more injuries and we are down to bayliss, our bottom middle. Over a season that's a high likelihood. Te kura or olfo played well enough to provide back up I thought...
