The Dolphins discussion

They doing the whole sustainable Olympics thing now though, so we don't end up with white elephants like homebush etc.
Still, there should be 1……at least 1 wc stadium. 50k really don’t cut it. Unless brissy wants to be the very first joke olympics ever held.

The Gabba is getting the upgrade, it will be the Olympic stadium. It’s a bit hard to have the athletics around a rectangular ground.

I think the state government has done good on this, out of all the Olympics that I can remember being done previously it would be the most useful main stadium in decades made for the Olympics without a compromise, The Gabba needed an upgrade anyway and after the running track gets taken down it will just be like Gabba turning into a Optus stadium like build done for Perth.

The only way Broncos could ever own a stadium is if it's Lang Park, we would need atleast a 35k seater for it to be worth it since we easily make decent profit playing there at the moment even including the huge rent of around 3 million going by the annual financials(it's about 50% going to us after rent atm).

To build your own stadium in this economy with massively inflated building costs would cost more then it would to buy Lang Park as it is, that's the problem.

I doubt the Government would sell a profitable stadium as well, I think given how much extra revenue we have over what we need to run the squad we can afford the several hundred million dollar loan required to buy it, but we would also require the same amount of tenant's there currently to pay it off.

I think as long as NRL keeps going in the same direction with TV revenue growth we will get to that point at some stage, but we would likely need a rich owner that isn't Newscorp to do it in the next 20 years or so, unless the QLD government somehow approves of it.

All we need is a rich owner who's a bit mad.

Wayne misses out on another marquee signing.

Centre pairing of Herbie and Wighhton would have been good.

The Dolphins have already gotten enough out of this player market in Thomas Flegler & Herbie Farnworth.

Missing out on Jack Wighton is a blow in the short term because he's good either side of the ball. However in the long term if they continue on their current trajectory, they'll have more money to secure their future.

I personally think while he would have been good for them, i dont think he would have been great value for money at the same time. I wouldnt call Wighton a Marquee player personally. A 4 year deal at over a Million for a player who will be 31 when the season starts doesnt shout value to me.

Souths now are going to have to shed some players. I think Arrow will end up at the Dolphins, and i cant see Tass hanging around to be a backup. He's shown he is a solid NRL player.

I think he would be wanting too much for the type of player we are looking for. Personally, i'd be pushing Payne for an answer about his future soon. If we can get that sorted one way or another we can plan our targets accordingly.

I don't have the biggest rap on him, but I don't think anyone at the Dolphins has his profile at the moment. Current Test player, Dally M medalist, Clive Churchill medalist in a spine position, he would have been their marquee signing.

Yeah we can’t let Haas string us along. Of course we all want him to re-sign him but there has to be a deadline otherwise you end up with K.Hunt all over again.

To be fair to Haas he's not off contract until end of next year, so there's no real rush but if he doesn't sign by October 1st the club should withdraw from negotiations and start planning for other players.

With his management i think the sooner the better. They seem the sort who will just string every party interested along.
