The Dolphins discussion

I don't have the biggest rap on him, but I don't think anyone at the Dolphins has his profile at the moment. Current Test player, Dally M medalist, Clive Churchill medalist in a spine position, he would have been their marquee signing.

He's a good player, dont get me wrong. I just dont see him as a marquee player at the stage of his career he will be when he gets there. I dont think he will have the impact you would want from a million dollar player.

Value for money doesn't come into the equation when you talk about marquee signings. When you achieve the things Jack has, he becomes a marquee signing.

If he wasn't this news wouldn't be drawing the attention it has.

Still dont agree mate that he's a Marquee player. In terms of older players, i dont think he would transform the Phins like say somebody like Cronk when he left Melbourne would have. I'd be putting him in the same bracket as say the 3 recruits they got from the Storm. Still quality, but not that real top tier player for me.

He doesn't have to be Cooper Cronk to be considered a marquee signing.

Not that it really matters. I just thought it was a strange thing to object to, so either it was an odd cope or you were making a stance over the bastardization of the word. Maybe it's still a strange combination of the two, regardless I think we can both agree that it's not the end of the world for the Dolphins.

Take the meeting because he's a Test player who can be good either side of the footy and you can sell him to sponsors etc.

I do think its a word thats used a bit too freely. Like how the word legend gets thrown around these days. From my own perspective, i think a marquee player is somebody you build the club around on and off the field, he becomes the face of the club. I dont think thats Wighton. There arent that many of that sort of players going around tbf.

NAS is not signed for next year. I think the Dolphins would have to be having a serious chat with him.

Absolute douche off the field but he's elite on the field.

Watching him tonight i just dont think there is a forward his size that can match his physicality. He's a grub, but he's been immense. Turned this game for the storm.

The Dolphins have already gotten enough out of this player market in Thomas Flegler & Herbie Farnworth.

Missing out on Jack Wighton is a blow in the short term because he's good either side of the ball. However in the long term if they continue on their current trajectory, they'll have more money to secure their future.
Wighton was never the answer for dolphins anyway... he's a luxury buy that is more a role player than a leading playmaker.

Does he get away with what he does if he's not in a Storm jersey? He would have been the perfect replacement for JWH as he's also untouchable, any other team he's suspended for half the season.

I think he would be wanting too much for the type of player we are looking for. Personally, i'd be pushing Payne for an answer about his future soon. If we can get that sorted one way or another we can plan our targets accordingly.
i dont think he would be chasing alot he has been off contract since november last year i wouldnt be opposed to a 12 month contract to see if he has anything to offer still have payne regardless for next year, only question mark is how he comes back from doing his ACL last year courtesy of a cannon ball tackle.

We are going to need to sign a high quality prop regardless, we lose alot with Flegler gone next year as is and with a strong risk of Haas going, it has to be something considered.

People legit saying Willison will do the job are living in fantasy land.

Despite the fact that he should be coming off the bench this year, Flegler is a starting prop. We need a starting prop to cover him. Kobe could move to lock and Carrigan to prop. They could both do it and it might be a good option.

Jensen is starting prop quality as well.

Yeah I’ve been on the Jensen train since the beginning. We are still losing something without Flegler and I’m not sure who will cover it.

We need someone aggressive
