Penrith just pumped the Roosters.

A team back in ominous form right before playing us. Great.

the Rooster were poor tonight, I reckon the Tigers would have been a good chance of beating them with their defensive resolve tonight

The Roosters were really poor so that was a big contributing factor, but the confidence a big win like that is going to give the Panthers is bad for us.

I think it's not that bad, Roosters where soo poor it can give some false confidence, but at the same time if Reyno isn't playing we are not going to be the same team.

I think it was also the fact Penrith were celebrating their 03 GF win with ex-players watching.

Hopefully they're even 5% off from this weekend.

Rogers took a while to get moving this season; problem is he hasn't found his Bears form yet. While he isn't playing poorly, he is just going through games and you barely notice him. He kicks well and is the leading points scorer for Cup but he is just in the background with a try assist and two goals every week. I am not sure that background role would translate too well to NRL without Reynolds there- Wynnum have the bye this week so no chance to impress. Against the Jets he was a good mixture of all his skills and was in everything. He needs more of that. His kicking game has been 10/10.

Madden I thought started the year really well, he was exciting and giving everything a crack but defence was an issue. He probably needs to find a speed between nothing and everything. His tempo is too much. He started the year combining well with Piakura and throwing passes for him and then he just started running at every chance and put away his passing.

Sailor- hasn't played anything but fullback all year but he takes the ball more than any other Magpie. If he is ever out Souths attack will go to hell. This is also the problem for Sailor- he wants the ball and needs it which makes him do erratic things. He throws a beautiful pass for Pereira last week then next set tries it again and throws it to no one. His game is built on running- He's averaging nearly 200m a game this season- up from 127 last season. He's exactly the same as what Isaako was in Cup in 2017- breaks eight tackles and makes 190m. What does that look like in NRL?

Has to be Madden.

Agree with your thought on madden. I live in ADL so don’t know much about QCup, but your comments about how Rogers is playing doesnt sound too bad either tho. I feel we missed the steady hand player when Reynolds went off. I think it would’ve been better to have billy shift to halves, if nothing else as a decoy or pressure reliever for the others to still chime in as they want. With guys like mam and Walsh, I tend to think that’s what we need. Like a perry to a Lockyer.
so id say either madden or someone like a rogers, certainly not a sailor filling in.

Yep, the Roosters just played Penrith back into red hot form. If we aren’t switched on it could be a bad night. Hopefully Reynolds will be back

I thought once Captn Coach Reynolds departed Billy would shift to #7 and Paix would play #9 . Instead Ezra played #7 and Patty and Kotoni took turns as link man .
But that pass from Paix late in the game was a Barry Crocker ! Haven`t heard much re . If Billy threw a pass like that , the I hate Billy thread would be alight .

Plenty of people pointed out how much of a turning point that pass was. It doesn't excuse the pass, but the Storm player steaming through was 5 metres offside at the PTB but once again the ref is somehow blind on selected occasions.

Paix 40 minutes tonight. Nothing scintillating but a solid 40 minutes. Mozer played the second 40.

It was heartening to see the boys still have a dig even when the spine was 2 twenty year olds, no halfback and Billy playing hooker for 70 minutes.

Makes you more confident that we can get away with just a competent halfback. Not sold Madden fits that description though.

Rogers maybe
I’m really surprised this is the first time I’ve seen Rogers mentioned. I want Madden to develop etc, but an older head like Rogers, could be exactly what we need. He was great in the trials too.

I'm kinda hoping Slater has let Walsh know Ponga is still the QLD #1, less pressure on him the better imo

I think Josh rogers over madden. Kev needs to pick whoever can defence better and that is rogers. In all seriousness, why the hell did we get madden over gamble.

There are 2 options here for Kevvie if Reynolds is out (I think he should be rested, it will be important to have him fit during Origin period).
Option 1 & most likely. Madden in as a straight swap for Reynolds.
Option 2. Walters to halfback, Paix to start and Mozer to bench.
I think Kevvie should and will go for the least disruptive to the preseason plan and play Madden.
