PRE-GAME [Round 1, 2024] Roosters vs Broncos in Vegas

What it did was the allow the two best teams all year sort it out amongst themselves. Both teams go t away with a bit each way and what a game it was as a result. I know it wouldn't work all the time and of course, teams like Melbourne will inevitably cheat if given that much leeway but I'll take this over getting hammered with three ridiculous sinbins like we did against Melbourne I think it was any day.

It would have been a good game regardless - both teams were playing great footy and it wasn't like the official had to make any tough decisions. It's just a shame it took 37 minutes for a game of football to break out.

I wish every team was as good as Penrith/Brisbane but they're not and the game is trying to clean up the ruck.

How good has Kevvie become in front of the camera as coach. He is a guy who knows who belongs as a high calibre head coach now.

Not only did he proved that but after that, after he came down from the stage, he patiently stood with a smiling face whoever went to him. He shook hands with everyone with a smiling face and posed for the photos. Loved the bloke.

Very few got an opportunity to get close to Adam & I was 1 among them. But I don’t know why, I chose to go to Kev & boy, I’m glad I did. I told him that he’s the man to get multiple Premierships to the club starting this year and he chuckled a lot and firmly gave me a side hug.

Adam was escorted by kind of local bouncers as soon as he got off stage all the way through to the hotel. They didn’t even allow fans to get close to him. I’m not worried that I didn’t get a snap with Adam as I’m confident that I’ll get one tomorrow.

I was thinking with the narrower and shorter field, I wonder of the broncos will look to go for a few 40/20s. Reynolds, walsh, walters and smoothy have all shown they can kick them. Walker and Keary aren't particularly known for a long kicking game .

Hope Reno, Billy and Walshy use this to a advantage.
40/20s Tedesco and the wingers won't want to be doing diving tap back ins.
If we throw a few early kicks in there's a chance the wingers will drop back early to save them or Tedesco could be caught out of position

But the distance between the lines is only 9 metres so in fact they’ll only be kicking a 36/18.

They’ll kick early is the plan. You can jam in and make it hard. Hopefully 2-3 tackles soaked up.

I think the team that bounces back to the middle will find success. The Broncos tend to go to an edge but I think bouncing back and testing inside shoulders is key.

Turning players under, and runs across the face of the defence, you need to spread them out them come back at the space.

I think you will find these boys will be drop ball machines. Some of the best running running backs have had big issues with fumbles. It would take longer than some realise getting these athletes ready for our game, some are not use to having the ball, others only make s tackle a few times in a career. Not to mention the difference in time in motion, I doubt there is an athlete that would complete with Hass just with the reality of how long that guy is in motion for his size. Their big boys would last five minutes in our game.

I've got no time for 'the ref should put the whistle away' or the game 'should be reffed like the GF' or such comments. Every game should be reffed the same way, you know, to the rules. That's why they have rules. If you need the ref to look the other way so it's an open game, and the NRL wants an open game, then the NRL needs to change the rules.
A sport that chooses to ignore certain rules at certain times to create a better product has serious problems.

Don't have huge expectations on this game. I reckon we should win but will be very understanding if we don't. The smaller pitch and the disrupted pre season will play a part. Here's to hoping the roosters are just as shite as they were at the start of last year
