OFFICIAL Payne Haas to depart Broncos at the end of 2026

Vossy had his say this morning on SEN.
After spending a fair bit of time with the Broncos, for the foxsport show The Fan, including time with the playing group that wasn't allowed to be filmed or recorded he said he could see nothing that made him think the playing group was divided in any way or off the coach in any way.
He saw a totally united happy group.
Amazing though how many others still want to push the Madge is off with the players, like it's impossible for a career coach to learn from mistakes and make adjustments.
Shocker. The team that just won the premiership from 4th place and 3 conscecutive double digit come backs DOESN'T have a culture problem. Who would have thought.

I think its pretty obvious to me Payne wants to start fresh in a new city. You can't knock him. Has nothing to do with the broncos and more so the trying circumstances himself and his younger brothers are stuck in. I think he is doing the best thing for them all tbh. Getting paid handsomly, living in Sydney and at a well run big club with a good coach and despite the issue here or there a roster that will at least be competitive albeit I'm not convinced in its current state it can win a premiership.

Not to mention it opens his younger brothers up to ample more opportunities to forge there own rugby league paths down south.

I think people are getting way too worked up about what the media are saying. Who gives a flying **** what they say. Most of them are part of the Human Centipede of Journalism. The players and Madge know the story. I'm more than comfortable the club has this under control.

I think so too. I also think it is the truth, so it is still valuable even if forced.

I don't.

It's to make Payne look good.

Him saying it's not about the money, but has a get out clause for R360.

Him & his manager only asking us for a 1 year deal, yet signs a 3 year deal, with last 2 years in his favour.

There was bound to be a 'leak' from the Broncos but Payne & his manager plays the media like Skeletor does.

Danny Weilder & his ilk, make shit up, for clickbait.

Anyone done a welfare check on Jonah? As a seven, Payne would have been a big reason I wanted to come to Brisbane and play behind him.

Payne was a seven's dream.

I mean, Pezet signed on despite Haas not having a contract for 2027 at the time and at a point when there was still plenty of noise about R360, so if he was basing his move here entirely on Haas being around it was poorly thought out on his part. So .... probably more to the decision than that?

Well usually you hear the stories about they address it at training or in the dressing room, first time I have heard about it over Whatsapp but all good.
Can you summarise for those who can't watch shitty videos?

I wonder if Buzz Rothfield turned down a send off gift. Instead he asked that his journo mates honour his legacy by continuing to attack Madge. "Promise me boys if their outside the top 8 after 10 rounds that you'll say Madge has destroyed the club"

Don't believe a word Dobbin says, he was the one saying we are offering a five year counter offer, nek minut we've waived the 10 day period. Dude hasn't been right in a LONG time.

Most seem to have taken his word as gospel for the supposed Reynolds WCC injury, despite the fact that literally no one else has reported it

It's the weekend, there's no training, all of the other players have lives and are doing their own thing.

He wanted to break the news to them first instead of waiting until they could all be together and they already know from finding out in the media.. I don't think they all would have been available to drop everything for an impromptu meeting.

Don't see the issue. People making it a far bigger deal than it is.
Yea fair enough, still feels a little shit to me. If i got something important to tell my best mate, im not texting him. Im knocking on his door. I am from an older generation though, so its probably different for younger fellas these days.

Your flawless logic and upbeat positivity are directly at odds with how angry i want to be with Payne for leaving.

Makes it a wee bit tougher to hate the guy.

The last time i felt this mad at a Bronco was when Turncoates left, but this feels a lot more legitimate than Coates did.
Your points are good and made me look at it from a different point of view.

Hope Haas makes big bags of cash and can happily look after his family.

Also

I hope our boys light that mother****er up with venom every time we play him.

Of course they do. You know how you can tell? Everything coming out of the journos is speculation and hyperbole. Classic "club in crisis" bullshit. Nothing that anyone has said has had the air of true insider knowledge about the subject. It's all throwing shit at the wall and hoping something sticks.

It ****s me... you're the dickheads who winge about it yet 54 pages later we are still talking about it... Why the **** wouldn't they. Journalistic integrity is not important in sports columns ffs.

Coates left when things were tough to try to win a premiership.
Payne did attract a lot of drama with his contract stuff, but he stuck around until the Broncos actually won a premiership (hopefully 2). Unless something goes wrong I don't think he has burned any bridges, if he's still good and comes back like Ben Hunt in the future, I'd still welcome him back.

Yep at least Haas is going for cash and family reasons and to a rival that isn't going to hurt us in the finals (because they won't be there). I hope the journos are on Grandpa Bennett's ass (won't happen) when they're struggling in '27
