Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2026

Not necessarily, I just see Phil as the better right winger. I don't think Verhoeven has done enough to knock Karapani out of that left wing position.
Doesnt Verhoeven profile as a centre at NRL level anyway?

With Shibs leaving, thats his spot to lose next season for me.

I was more impressed with Poates than Verhoeven at NRL level. Yes I know Poates made mistakes but he looked more physically ready.

At NRL level he's only played left wing.

He's starting to play left centre for Wynnum and long term that will be his spot in the team. I imagine he'll get reps there next season but whether he's the first choice remains to be seen. I'd imagine that will be Mariner.

Don't get it twisted either. I'm a big fan of Nio and after watching his first touch for Burleigh in U/19s it was obvious he was an NRL player.

There is definitely a place in the game for a bigger but agile centre. Bostock has been damn near excellent at centre since he returned. It's a great weapon to have a centre who can contest attacking kicks, competing for bat downs etc. So no doubt Verhoeven will get a chance at some point.

Fair enough.....

That's wonderful if official. I am not paying to read the article.

He hasn't officially re-signed but his management and the Broncos are in the advanced stages of negotiations, with coach Michael Maguire indicating he wants to keep the former Cowboy at Red Hill for 2027 and beyond.

“I have a really high opinion of Tommy and we want to keep him here,” Maguire said.

“When you have a competitive squad, which you want as a coach, you give players the opportunity and in this case Tom gets his opportunity this week.

“I’ve been really impressed with what Tom has done since joining us. He’s got a great attitude and is willing to learn which is a great sign, so he gets his chance this week.”

Badel says the club will offer Billy an extension. He will be 33 next season.
