How many weeks does he get if he called Mam a ****, or a dog? Both dehumanising but I’m sure as shit they both get said regularly on the field

It’s dehumanising because of race, there is no history of dog being used as a slur against indigenous people. If he called him a dog no further action would have been taken.

The thing that ***** me off is you know all this yet are being purposely obtuse to push this weird agenda you have.

NRL CEO Andrew Abdo has received a formal apology from red-faced NSW greyhound bosses over a crass comment referencing the Ezra Mam-Spencer Leniu racism scandal.
This masthead can reveal a GRNSW staffer has been sacked over a tongue-in-cheek form-guide comment in a bizarre and tasteless twist to the NRL’s racism saga involving Broncos pivot Mam and Roosters prop Leniu.

Just hours after the NRL judiciary suspended Leniu for eight games for calling Mam a “monkey”, rugby league’s racism saga spilt into the greyhound industry.

In the lead-up to a low-key greyhound race at Maitland on Monday night, punters became enraged when noticing a comment for race favourite Ezra Man - the greyhound namesake of Broncos star Mam - began with the statement: “Go Bananas! Let’s see IF we can get some positive Headlines, tonight?”.

be careful criticising Vlandy's yes man ... especially in an industry he has control over

I reckon 8 weeks is a bit much. This isn't really that serious. I mean.. if they can dish out 4 weeks for breaking someone's leg in an illegal tackle I don't see how calling someone a word is worth more than that.

Spencer is definitely a scapegoat. This has more to do about public perception than the severity of what occurred.

Except it's more then just calling someone a word in the heat of the match, he knew exactly what he was saying, chose to make out oh gee I had no idea and then purposely decided not to leave it on the field which esculated it even worse. Spencer is not a scapegoat in any shape of the form, he brought it on himself entirely. It's pretty pathetic to downplay it as just words when it's been a racial slur been used to dehumanise people for far too long.

Yeah but I just think to myself and wonder. Would I actually be offended if someone called me a monkey during a football game. Nope. I can't see the severity of it to be honest. Ezra has done a fine job of making a first grade football team. He's had some great opportunities and taken them. He won't be any worse off In 5 years having been called a monkey.

8 matches is pretty huge when compared to 4 for a compound fracture to jackson Hastings by one of our players. I'm sure if you ask the players if they would prefer to be called a monkey or receive a serious injury they would all agree that the injury is more severe.

I reckon 4 weeks for Spencer would have been fine but the NRL is trying to make a point. I can see why, the world's watching.

Ultimately, racism in ANY FORM is not on. Have I heard F-ing White C on the field?! Yes. Targeted by other races? Yes.
Does it bother me? Not particularly.
Roles reversed, does it bother someone else? Maybe. It’s not for us to judge.
I think it’s pretty simple… Don’t say it.

Holy **** ... Dobbo actually had a dig at the Sydney media.

During the Matt Ballin, post training media interviews" Dobbo asked him about the allegations that had surfaced in the "Sydney papers" ... he said that the fact it took 7 days for these allegation to come out about the Broncos players was like "they were trying to build a defence"

I’m glad you shared this, I don’t think there has been enough white guys confirming they wouldn’t find the word monkey offensive throughout this saga.

Comparing this to an accidental injury also isn’t relevant as players go on to a footy field knowing there is a high chance of injury, they don’t expect to be racially vilified.

I'm not a white guy. But yes, it's okay to be okay after being called a name. All im saying.

Well clearly Ezra wasn’t okay so what is your point?
Yeh obviously it's horrible for him to be so sad. Hate to see it. My point is, personally I don't find it that offensive and ultimately it's okay to be okay after being called a name.

You probably don't find it offensive, but Ezra and a lot of Indigenous people do.

It would be ridiculous for the NRL to put so much effort into trying to increase the Indigenous representation in the game and close the gap, but then go soft on racism because "it's just a word". It would be a great way to turn away the Indigenous talent coming through which would ultimately lead to the game suffering in the long run.

You had better get used to it brother, because that is the precedent now. You can expect that it will only go up from there for any future idiots.

Yeah I agree. Exactly my point. The penalty isn't because of how ezra felt. It was 8 weeks because of the public perception and whatnot.

But yeah, in the scheme of things. I think 8 weeks is excessive.

Yeah. Anyone who comes out with a racial slur like that is totally an idiot. Probably the dumbest comment to make to an Indigenous person.

Blokes like JT make it so much worse. Living in a perpetual state of victimhood does nothing for no one.
