Poor in attack throughout the game, but I thought we defended very well in the first half. Our bench middles are our biggest weakness atm and the solution is so obvious (X for Marty or Hetho). Baker looked way better this week imo.

If Reynolds is out, to me its the best interim option. Arthars and Mariner can do a very solid job at the back for the time being.
you want a situation that doesn't hurt another, I agree Walsh would be our best 7 but it hurts 1 way too much.

That said Sailor would do a job there it would be interesting to see how that works but it's very risky for no reason to.

I don't think it would happen if madden and rogers were both unavailable. I would prefer to see billy walters playing 7 if it meant we keep Walsh exactly where he is.

On the JD’s point about Ezra missing 100 tackles last year. I counted 2 tonight, that while missed, both of them were effective in shutting a play down.

Overall I think we kind of all need to relearn what we think a good and bad game is from this team. I’m not suggesting tonight was good by any means, but we scored 28 points and realistically bombed 2 absolute sodas and probably let another 2 tries pass us by that we could have scored.

South’s didn’t really look like scoring too much other than those they scored. I know they dropped a lot of ball, but even last year we had so many similar games. Teams seemed to play poorly against us and we fucked up a lot but won more games than we lost.

I think we are a unique side in that regard, we’re not going to have that perfect game because of the way we play. We just have enough superstars and freak shit in us to win games. We aren’t a clinical team, but when you have a mariner chip and chase paired with a mariner defensive **** up followed by blistering pace to un **** up the **** up, who cares. That’s just how we play and we have to get use to it.

Good to have our season underway and I’m going to sleep a happy boy.

I’ve had two Ubers cancel on me 🥲

My car is parked at Oxley station ... I could walk there, pick up my car and still get home to Ipswich before a train arrives to take me home

tbh, if our backup half options where out I would be open to the idea, because we do have Sailor who is a genuine good fullback option with a very similar style to Walsh.

Fair point on Sailor! There is talent there, its just a matter of shuffling the cards for the right hand.

frustrating game to watch. Happy we won though 😛

We looked better when Haas is on the field straightening up our attack through the middle.

Piakura was beast, I just hope he doesn't over do it and get injured or another concussion.

Walsh and Mariner were great.

Kevvie will need to up the ante on the boys, bcos our goal line attack wasn't up to scratch, and we bombed alotta trys

If Reyno is out for a several weeks, we try Madden at 7 and we fail hard, I Wouldn't be against trying the Sailor at 1 and Walsh at 7 against Cowboys, it is early season.

even for one game the fact is we still will need to answer the post reyno puzzle, issue being if that is the answer i'm not sure how we keep sailor till then anyway.

Baker actually had a decent game. It might end up being Marty who misses out when Xman comes in. The next few weeks will let us know.
Marty is backup, willison in for him agreed.

Cobbo was great defensively tonight. Loved seeing that. It was the biggest concern with him going to centre but read the game and made the right decisions.

Really good seeing staggs so involved in the first half but he needs to keep that up through the game he was quiet in the second half.

Piakura had a great outing. We need to use him close to the tryline because his lines and late footwork are so good if you can get him 1 on 1 on into a sliding defensive line he will pole through every time.

Kobe didn't have a great night, but I also can't understand why we are trying to make him a bash and barge prop. He should never be taking hitups off the kickoff, he is for line running, leg speed and tightening defence.

Deine was good again. I think both wingers were a bit quite getting our sets started. But boy there is something there. His speed is effortless really want to see him stretch right out.

Hookers were a bit average, honestly looks like too many players are over calling each other. The hierarchy and game plan managers need to sort this out quick smart.

Patty started slow but got through a mountain of work, if he wasn't in the middle we probably lose. But way too many minutes.

Payne was good as usual. I don't like the patty to Payne short ball flat and sliding. Through the middle straight it's good but on the slide I don't like it. Every team gang of Ackles Payne now and his strength is front on.

Baker, although reasonably short stint was.probably our best bench. Best part of his game is his play the ball, it is incredibly quick and we really need to plan on using that.

The game overall I hate to say it but I think it was lucky that the souths were worse than us. We need to sort out basics fast for next week.
I agree we shouldn't be making hethrington into a bash and barge prop.... but that's actually what we need at the moment. I think if he covered second row he would keep his spot as it increases his value, but he doesn't and the team can't have the luxury of a small middle on the bench while we adjust to life without flegler.
