You have got to be fucking kidding me.....

You have got to marvel at Payne and his brother's success at more or less keeping their heads on their shoulders while being surrounded by such nong nongs as their parents. I feel so sorry for them.

If anything it does benefit the Broncs in the long term. Payne is desperate to have people he knows and cares for in his life and around him and Kevvie and his teammates may very well fit that bill.

My guess is he is likely going to be off for a bit and he will play after origin.

Yeah I'd say so - if he has turf toe or a break he'll need 4+ weeks anyway. Might do him some good.

How on earth did he end up even remotely normal (yes, I know he's had his problems, but if he followed in the family line he'd have a wrap sheet a mile long by now) with those parents.

*edit* Nerve problem from Bullemor's knee into the back of his calf. Still think he could use some time to process effectively losing both of his parents to jail (or worse in one case) through their own stupidity and wreckless nature.

Played on because the game was on the line and had a great charge will lead to FG. He is a Bronco! Enough said

Payne opens up on his turbulent year below and how he has matured into a better person:

- looking forward to the birth of his first son in December. "I’m ready for more chaos".
- learned of his father’s arrest just hours before Brisbane’s premiership game against Manly in May. Kev gave him the option to pull out but he refused.
- just used to always having drama in his life.
- Payne is more like father than an older brother, making lunches, taking his siblings to school and paying for their education and daily needs.
- “I don’t want them to see the things that I saw as a kid and be around the certain things I was around".
- "Once upon a time, I wasn’t a good role model to be honest. But you grow up in life and all I care about now is raising good kids with manners and good morals who treat people well".
- is not proud of his rap sheet, but says the birth of his first child changed him.
- the Broncos have given him a lot of chances, but they have been patient and helped him become a better person.
- credits Kev for always believing in him. Will always be grateful to Kev and "everyone at the Broncos who actually cared about me as a person and wanted the best for me".
- “Had they sacked me, I would have copped it on the chin because it was my fault, I was doing the wrong thing by them".
- “They stuck by me and showed faith in some really tough times, so I will always have respect and love for the Broncos".
- “This off-season has been the best thing for me. I just got away from a lot of things".
- His 2 young brothers play as forwards for Brisbane Easts and he hopes they one day play for the Broncos.

An awful lot for a young bloke to cope with when he has his own struggles to deal with and yet still turns up every time on the field, week in week out.

Yeah, he's done amazingly well given everything he had to deal with. There are plenty of players who grew up in relatively normal environments who are complete idiots off the field.
Is Payne the best forward in the game when he's injury free? Probably. Is he on a little too much for Broncos squad balance? Maybe? Can you blame him? No. I'd be looking at making as much money as I can if I was in his shoes, he'll have so much to deal with after retiring from footy, gotta set yourself up as best as you can. He could probably be making 1.5M at some bottom dweller club looking to improve in any way they can.

I love this from Payne.
I was raised in a typical Aussie racist mysoginistic and homophobic household - it probably took me to the age of 25 to really undo a lot of the hard wiring that went into my brain from how I was raised. I’d be horrified if people held things against me I said, did, and believed at 20.

Good for you Payne. I’m here for this maturity leap.

It has and it's great.

He's able to negotiate from November 1, so good to get him locked down. He seems in a much different space to his last negotiation though.

Seems to have changed abit in the last 6 months. Started seeing it when he was rocking up to preseason early running water bottles for the blokes training. He may have always done this but I think Madge has had a influence on him.
