2016 Strongest Line-Up

barring a horrible run of injuries, i doubt we will see a serious number.
alick is high on the list and early fave for the vacant wing spot. ese'ese is killing it on the training paddock so i reckon he will be there round 1, the likes of arrow and some oher fringe guys may get a stint during the year and depending on the origin period we may see scarlett. i had a look at the 20's also and su'a is potentially a big smokey, wayne may use him like he did with tapine at the knights and blood him off the bench during some stage of the year.
funaki is a tricky one, he coud easily play grade but he can be lazy. if wayne gets him right he could jump out of the ground and be real good

I heard Hipgrave is going to make he debut in the origin period too.

Does anyone know if Marion Seve is a good player since we have just recruited him? And also how is Alick going with his development considering he was touted as being like Inglis when he was younger?

seve was a beast at schoolboy level, he has a long way to go still and its a big step up too the big boys. he reminds me a bit of loko, he destroyed his own age but struggled when the other kids matured, its def a wait n see with this kid to see if he comes on.

im not sure about the inglis comparison for alick, but all reports are he is well through his acl injury and on the right path.

So Alick locked in for round 1?

The boring answer is that it's too early to declare any of the rookies a lock, especially for Round 1 where so much hinges on availability.

I'm basing this off two games of 9's, but Alick for mine looked so lacklustre last year. On the surface, I'd surely think he's not first cab off the outside backs rank?

Has he played QLD cup? Or straight from Nyc?
I'd hazard a guess Wayne would sooner play Maranta, Anderson, Opacic and Witchurch (possibly Eden) given their greater open age footy experience. Maranta being the only one out?

As long as Whitchurch isn't put on the wing idc who gets picked.

I'm still hedging my bets with Carlin, I think he's got the highest upside of all our young wingers, really hope Wayne gives him first opportunity.

Wouldn't mind an update from talanoa or Smokin' Joe regarding how Carlin has looked at training.

A cheapie is almost certain to get a run on the wing, with Jack Reed (shoulder) and Lachlan Maranta (fractured wrist) to miss the first month, plus Justin Hodges (retired), Dale Copley (Roosters) and Daniel Vidot (Salford) having left. It’s understood Aaron Whitchurch and Tom Opacic are vying for the spot, with young gun Elijah Alick an outside chance. Carlin Anderson, a recruit from the all-conquering Ipswich Jets in the Intrust Super Cup, is not considered ready for first grade at this stage.

Sounds like a fair assessment of where things are at.

I guess it would make sense to leave Kahu on the right wing, let him develop his combination with Roberts, rather than have him switching between centre and wing all season again.

if it's a month of Opacic vs a month of Whitchurch, I'm all for Opacic.

Pretty much still the attitude. I wrote this 12 months ago and I haven't changed too much. Probably err towards not playing him at this stage. I must have been feeling generous when I wrote the last sentence.

His fitness is well up though, he's loving the training.

Someone maybe leaving is not a good reason to hand them an NRL spot. Is Anderson talented yep, is he safe and dependable- not yet. He might never been the safe player.

In his 25 games, he does the big huge things well. Picks up a ball on his feet and runs 100m to score- brilliant. He then kicks the goal too.

But then on the fifth tackle he doesn't contest a bomb and let's it bounce. I will say this, on Sunday he left the ground and took a brilliant bomb under huge pressure so I think he's moving forward on that and he's playing a new position.

So I guess it depends on if you're prepared to take that risk. He's a brilliant natural footballer.

Just some stats for this year:

Runs 94 (13.4 pg)
Metres 990 (141 pg)
Offloads 10 (1.4 pg)
Line breaks 6 (.8 pg)
Tries 4
Goals 5/6.

Fans say take the risk, then when he drops two bombs the internet will blow up with he should never have been picked- who is this nuffy.

Personally I'd take the risk, I love that type of footballer.

It sounds like Carlin Banks isn't a Wayne Bennett type footballer. He really loves safe wingers but I wouldn't call Aaron Whitchurch safe. The guys has feet for hands.

Personally after hearing some great things about Pearson and some JYY comparisons I want him to get the spot round 1, but I am not sure how likely that is.

I do wonder whether Pearson will at all be considered.
