2016 Strongest Line-Up

Only those who've seen him in the juniors on a regular basis. I like what I saw from him, but I haven't really been able to keep up with the U20's in the last year.

I'm still hedging my bets with Carlin, I think he's got the highest upside of all our young wingers, really hope Wayne gives him first opportunity.

Wouldn't mind an update from talanoa or Smokin' Joe regarding how Carlin has looked at training.

il not sure on how carlin has looked at training to be honest, i would reckon he wouldnt have an issue with the training and physical side of things though, it would just depend on what wayne sees and wants. alick is long and rangey so he may be more of a bennet type fit. 1910 would be best in regards to carlin as his links to the jets would prob keep him best informed.
bucking beads assessment could be correct though.

I do wonder whether Pearson will at all be considered.

not sure how he is tracking and to be honest i know bugger all about him, he sort of came from nowhere in the past 18 to 24 months. he wasnt really on the radar as a highly touted junior. most kids who come from central qld to the club normally have a big boom on them and are in the system very early, he may be a late bloomer.

I read something saying he only started playing league 3 years ago, so maybe that is why you haven't heard of him much.

Pearson was strong when playing in the ISC. Two tries against the Jets and a try against the Blackhawks- he mixed it up well scoring tries and physically.

He's a Yeppoon Seagulls junior.

What does his footy future look like?

Pearson has looked much better than Alick. I'd like to see Opacic get a run while Reed is out.

I keep seeing similar things being posted, so I'm going to write something that should go without saying...

Posts such as...

"Is this guy a lock for Round 1?"

"Will this guy play first grade?"

"Where can you see this player in five years time?"

Are questions that even the coaching staff would have a hard time answering, let alone fans of the club who have limited access to the players.

Let's level for a second here...

The NYC Broncos were featured on TV a total of two times last season, both of those were finals games where the Broncos had well and truly hit the wall weeks back.

Everything else is at the game where most fans struggle to tell players apart and treat it more as a social event than as a scouting opportunity.

If somebody is able to attend all the home games, they'll be able to say they saw half their season.

Or if you're like me, 5 home games.

It isn't a ideal way and you can never factor in all the relevant factors that go into whether a player is going to have a long and successful NRL career. The best you can really do is keep note of a player, follow their progress and see if they can handle the step up.

The rest is entirely just guess-work, especially at this stage of the season where nobody has even run out for a game yet.

I know everybody wants to unearth the next Milford, Tuivasa-Sheck or Holmes but nobody can really provide a concrete team-list this early. Things happen, players get injured, suspended, go to rehab, hump dogs and all sorts of stuff goes down.

Patience...

Keep track of who is in the first grade squad, the trial teams and the stand-outs. They will tell you what you need to know.

I am nearly 100% sure if a journo made up a name and used the words gun, school boy sensation and ended it with may sign with insert club name- people would comment on whatever platform and say I've seen him he's awesome, we need to sign him etc.

I think Tom would be a good replacement for Reed tbh. He is a solid, hard working player who has a lot more skills imo than he has shown us yet, plus he knows where the try line is. Bennett likes his attitude and he always seems to like a solid center alongside a flashier one these days, and Tom could fit the bill.

Its a big year for him. He needs to impress at Redcliffe and at the nines.

Spot on mate.

So I was reading an article of how tigers debuted a few youngsters for the nrl nines tournament and I came across a name. Rod Griffin. Remember him? He trained with us last season and I decided to look at some highlights on youtube. Looks like a very solid player, couldve been an asset for us
