2017 Line-up

When did this become about you? I simply asked if anyone could show me Kahu at full pace with the ball because he seemed to have regressed in 2016. When asking the question I accidentally left out that I meant running with the ball, but I rectified that by adding it afterwards. But you did say he wasn't given a chance and that his walk ups were more skill than brawl which was crap because his hit ups led to nothing and were not skillful. Therefore you looked past another negative for one of your favourites, so if the shoe fits..

I definietely noticed a loss of pace from Kahu last year, whether that was through injury or lack of effort, I'm unsure. But to be fair, he's never really been "fast", he has many other strengths as a player, luckily.
I think he's doing it to protect himself and I understand that. But I think he needs to find something in the middle.

so info getting around suggests that joe is trying to get reallocated back to souths rather than the jets (can hardly blame him though), also todd murphy could be the interesting one this year. rumblings around that norths have been told to play him at 9 instead of 7. he has been training a lot at 9 with the top squad so may well be they see him as the cover/utility option going forward?? his defense, organising and kicking game is superior to nikorima's, so could be on the cards during the season or just extra cover

Possible replacement for Macca?

Macca has indicated that he would be open to leaving the club if the Broncos don't give him a good enough offer when negotiations start. I don't think the Broncos are going to throw the chequebook at him.

I think he's a a lot faster than we think and he is a good player. I don't rate Opacic he's only a average kind of center.

This year is a year for Kahu to stand out and make the center position his own, like reed did.

Yeah, a couple of injuries in the forwards..

Bennett has shown he is more than willing to bring up a rookie winger and we had one in the ranks that would have done the job just fine. If Bennett didn't think he couldn't handle first grade, he never would have been selected.

And having Kahu at centre would have benefited us more attacking wise than having Opacic at centre, but still Opacic was selected ahead of Kahu.

To say that Opacic has no chance.. Well, I wouldn't put money on that. Especially after Kahu's incredible finishing ability in the 9's and the fact that Opacic is a better defender than Kahu.

If Reed were still playing, he would be left centre ahead of both of them. Because Bennett likes those type of centres.

Maybe if we didn't pick up mead ! And I think pearson will be ahead of opacic by the end of the season too.

At the moment he is backup no question, but he did well last season despite playing most of his games injured. I doubt many here would have seen much of him play fully fit tbh.

I agree , he was solid last year . But I think their is and will be players ahead of him .

Maybe if we didn't pick up mead ! And I think pearson will be ahead of opacic by the end of the season too.

I would expect Pearson to be in front of Opacic. Pearson is a winger

I'm not 100% confident that the back row is set is stone yet either. I think if Thaiday has had a quiet off season and a little down on fitness (we all know he loves his food) and isn't getting any younger he could be moved back to the bench and Glenn back to the left second rower posisiton.

Personally I think Thaiday played some of his best footy in a long time in the second row at the back end of last year and Glenn his best coming off the bench but I'd say it's still a bit of a battle between him and Glenn for he starting spot. You'd imagine gillet is set in stone for the other starting spot.

EXACTLY who will take over retired Brisbane skipper Corey Parker’s No.13 jersey has been the subject of much discussion throughout the pre-season.
The likes of Josh McGuire, Jai Arrow and new recruit Korbin Sims have all been touted for the role which Parker had made his own since 2009.
But as it turns out, in the same manner as Darius Boyd’s captaincy announcement, Broncos coach Wayne Bennett likes to inform his players of his plans well in advance, which is why McGuire knew months ago that he’d be moving out of the front row in 2017.
“I’ve known I’m playing lock since last year,” McGuire revealed to foxsports.com.au.
“I’ve had conversations with Wayne about it, so I know where I’m playing and my role within the team.
“I’ve had a long time to get my head around that and the way I want to do it.
“It doesn’t really change much to be honest, I guess I won’t have to take the kick offs or the earlier rucks which is probably a bit better for me because I’m a bit smaller.
“I’m now able to use my feet and speed behind some of the bigger guys.”
After being overlooked for the Australian squad for last year’s end-of-season Four Nations tournament, McGuire returned to training at the end of November in the third Broncos group alongside teammates Ben Hunt and Andrew McCullough.
The 26-year-old has dropped down from 104kg to 102kg and reckons his new weight will put him in good stead for the lock role. He also expects to up his game time from the 58 minutes he was averaging last season.
“It’s been a really good pre-season, it’s probably the best I’ve felt coming into a season and it’s the lightest I’ve been,” McGuire said.
“(The new weight) makes it a bit easier running around the field and it’s more comfortable.
“I’m looking forward to moving the ball around a bit more as opposed to that stuck role of just hitting it up and making a lot of tackles.
“I can hopefully be a bit more creative and play off the back of the bigger guys which will be nice.
“It’ll be a good opportunity to play in a new position.”
So has he asked for few tips from the man whose big shoes he’ll be filling?
“Not really, I played with ‘Cozza’ for a long time so I know what he brought,” McGuire said.
“I’m just going to play the way I plan on playing.
“Like I said, my role won’t change too much. I’ll still be heavily involved in running and tackling.
“It’s more the other little things I’ve been working on which help you develop as a player.”

Guess that more or less confirms the starting line-up, only spots up for grabs now are the open bench forward spot & the utility spot.

1. Boyd (c)
2. Oates
3. Kahu
4. Roberts
5. Mead
6. Milford
7. Hunt
8. Sims
9. McCullough
10. Blair
11. Thaiday
12. Gillett
13. McGuire

14. Glenn
15. Pangai Jr
16. Ese'ese / Ofahengaue / Arrow / Fai
17. Nikorima / Marshall

With McGuire certainty for the lock position, I'm not to sure that there's room for Arrow. Bennett likes to play a utility and Pangai jr and Glenn almost guaranteed a spot how can we pick Arrow over another prop.

I say arrow will end up at another club
Wtf. why?? He's shown no standout, must-play-first-grade qualities to mean he is a guaranteed walk into a starting spot.. players have to develop! They bide their time and learn their trade. That's league. That's all professional sport! You should wait your turn til you're ready or risk doing a jayden nikorima
