This is the side I think the Broncs should use if everyone is fit and Bird, Oates and TPJ hang around:

1. Roberts
2. Oates
3. Bird
4. Boyd
5. Isaako
6. Milford
7. KNik
8. Lodge
9. Turpin
10. Joffa
11. Su’A
12. Gillett
13. TPJ

14. Staggs
15. Haas
16. McGuire
17. Fifita (he could really start over Su’A)

18. Carrigan (Pushing for McGuire’s spot)
19. Glenn (First in when injuries strike)
20. Kahu
21. O’Sullivan
22. Mago
23. Pearson
24. MCCullough
25. Flegler

I’m sure I’ve forgotten someone.

Savelio, but he’d be in the 20s anyway.

Pretty much nailed the team though. Except for Kodi. He’s either a 9, 14 or out. 14 for mine combining with the Turpinator. Roberts at 1 is interesting, until I know he can defuse bombs and get positioning right, id be hesitant. But **** it, why not.

I don't mind Turpin but I think people seem to be jumping the gun a bit thinking he can be our number 1 hooker next year. It's arguable he isn't even the best hooker at Redcliffe quite honestly.

The thing we need to realise is some of these players like Staggs, Turpin and Haas haven't really been tested when things aren't going well at NRL level. Staggs and Turpin especially have both had their best games when the team has played well. We haven't really seen how they handle getting put under pressure.

I’d say that he has our played Milford more then milford has outplayed him this year and Milford is probably on 6 or 7 times the amount of money. This milford love and Kodi bashing has to stop. Open your Milford coloured eyes and actually watch the games!

Milford is just as much to blame (probably more considering the amount he gets paid) as Kodi is!

When you talk about value for money I’m taking Kodi every day of the week!
You’ve got to remember Milford is doing Kodi’s job as well.

Bird deadset sucked it up so bad in the halves this year
Anyone would have with the injuries he was playing with ... Hell many halves wouldn't even take the field with injuries half as bad

Thats all fair enough....but it does point out just how desperate most Broncos fans are to see the back of McCullough. Any rolled up baked potato with a Brisbane number 9 jersey on most likely will offer the team something more than what we are getting out of McCullough.

I was going to suggest giving Peter Wallace a lifeline.....but the rolled up baked potato just seemed to have that extra something else to offer.

Didn't we beat NZ in NZ with him at HB? From memory they were undefeated at that stage as well. What more does Kodi offer in the halves?

Wayne moving Bird to HB as early in the season as he did means that Niko's spot in the 7 is probably done for next season.

Well, at least I can get started on my montages now.

There were at least a few shining lights this season. Isaako, Roberts, TPJ, Oates.

I still think Macca would be fine if we didn't insist on him playing 80 all the time. Still think if we developed Kodi into a hooker he could have as much impact as Cook, if not more IMO.

I understand what you mean, but at the same time, there’s only one way to find out. It might lose us some games, but it may light a fire under some of our underperforming incumbents. Or the new guys step up and kill it

This exactly. If everyone was wondering what wayne was scheming when he got jack to the club last year. This was it. (The whole "he could be a lock" line was bullshit). It was to take kodis (play as a second five eigth) role as a bigger body. Having proven already that Kodi was in fact too small to take bens hb spot.

Given this failed miserably with the injuries. This is why the board is going after him now, because they would have known this was the plan. This is also why Wayne was so publicly pissed that the sharks hid the extent if his injuries. Because he had bet the house on this call.

If Wayne finally admits this was a bad plan and starts anew to recruit a half back then Wayne will get his final year extension, this year. Otherwise we will all be waiting til next year to find out if our coach gets an extension (if and only if jack becomes the player Wayne has taken a bet he can become.)

For me it’s pretty clear.

1. Milford (can still kick and has priority when wants the ball)
2. Oates (afl training to get hands right)
3. Roberts (Hodges to teach him to defend)
4. Boyd (assuming fit otherwise staggs)
5. Isaako (need to get a winger like Yow yeh to teach him wing play)
6. Bird
7. O’Sullivan or tba
8. Lodge
9. Macca (30 mins hooker then lock then off only can play 50 or 60 until Turpin or someone else is ready)
10. Offa
11. Sua
12. Gillett
13. TPJ
14. KNik
15. Fifita
16. Haas
17. McGuire (prop for 45 need experience off bench but has clearly shown long minutes and 13 expose his weaknesses).
18. Glenn (if gets a big payday elsewhere then wish him luck and could use his cash for TPJ)
19. Mago
20. Staggs

Kahu preferably to another club. Too injury prone. Fine on the wing and nice to have a backup kicker of his quality but he deserves a payday and we could use his cash for Oates.

If KNik wasn’t such a liability defending 3 in would like him at 6 and Bird at 9 but would need to see a huge improvement with a bodyguard capable as well.

Big risk is second year syndrome, ongoing lack of leadership and hard for a new spine but current spine couldn’t be trusted to win a chook raffle. 2020 would be main target but a good run with injuries and the combinations might be ready come business end 2019.

Hate to dissapoint you, but he was never bought here to be a long term half. Lock was always the original plan.

Happy to be wrong. Just saying that's how i read it, based on how this season has played out.

The thing that never added up if what your saying turns out to be true. Is how does Bird overcome the gigantic defensive load of learning to be a lock in one season in the modern game?

When Bennett is telling Oates, who was a 2nd rower through his junior days (and still plays like one) that he won't cut it as a forward.

Why can't bird be fullback? Get him fit and slimmed down a bit. I'm sure he's a good talker too. Boyd to centres to see out his career and that tightens up our defence on that side. The only problem positions then is halfback and dummyhalf.
