2018 NRL Side

No way Lodge signs anywhere else. The Broncos are like a rehab facility. He'll repay us with loyalty. I can tell he's a decent bloke who had shit ass role models and social groups. I genuinely believe he's turned his life around. He deserves a go.

He is also a bloke that is in a severe financial situation. It's not every day you owe people over $1 million.

Don't underestimate what big amounts of money will do in a situation like that.

I imagine he will want that chapter of his life over and done with as quickly as possible so he can move on. Another club comes in with a huge offer like 500k-600k or more.. I can see him taking it.

After all, if the NRL didn't agree to register him in 2018 then he wouldn't be here.

If Lodge is as good as everyone says or thinks then we will more than willing to pay up at the 500k Mark especially with cap going up.

Yeah I get that point. I thought I read somewhere that if he earns big money then they will try to get compensated higher. They think cause he's a professional footballer, he's on NFL level money

Fairly sure he retired in 2015.
Don't be a smart arse. We were paying him big money and he was a centre. He got his hands on the ball a lot because he wanted it and produced when he did. Nothing to say Bird can't do the same..
But I'd prefer him play in the middle

Yeah this. If he stays clean he’ll get his money.

Lodge is worth the money and will get it. I'm confident of him staying clean too. He has matured and has more to lose now. We were all young once yeah? We need to retain him.

Su'A is valueable to us too. He has had limited opp at Broncos with the experience we have in his position. He ranked top in most of the stats in Qcup each week for SL, even if he wasn't scoring all the tries. If he doesn't get his opportunity for game time this year, guarantee we will lose him.

Exactly - he wanted it and always put his hand up!

I think Bird put his hand up for a halves spot originally before Bennett assured Kodi the spot.

Im a Kodi fan - but who would you rather in the halves spot Kyall?

In the halves Bird will get more ball but I would want him in the backs. Kodi is our best option and he is he my first pick.

Maybe you forgot what you wrote. I was replying to the part that said "as if we'd pay him that much just to play centre"
I was pulling up the fact that that's not a great point and there's recent precedent to suggest so.
Your move

I doubt we paid Hodges anything close to what we are paying Bird.

And if you were replying to a certain part of a post, maybe its more sensible to quote that particular part, not the other parts that dont really have any relevance to the point you are trying to make.

Back to you.

Totes opposite for mine. He was never that fast, even at his peak. He was strong, yes. But there were centres running around that were stronger and faster, like Timana Tahu, Willie Tonga, etc, that wouldn’t reach the same heights, at least not as consistently. In fact I’d bet there would be centres running around right now in QCup and the NRL that are stronger and faster, more “athletic”, but will never be more than also-rans. Because what Hodges had that those others don’t is the instinct and determination. His step, his fend, it wasn’t how he did it, but when, in what context of the game and in what situation his team is in. Imagine Hodges’ brain in Copley’s body. Or Moga’s! A faster, 110-odd KG Hodges.
The step and the fend were byproducts of his agility - if he didn't have the footwork to get himself outside a player, the fend wouldn't be anywhere near as useful. The step explains itself.

He had the right combo for sure, but without the athletic aspect he would've been an average player. There's nothing wrong with your physical attributes being a key reason why you're a great/were a great, it's common for a lot of players!

Back to you.

In today's dollars, at his peak, Hodges would be on $900k. He was being paid $400 - $450k between 2001 and 2007-ish, both by us and the Roosters.

He would, maybe even more seeing as he was the best center going around. Cant see too many centers though that play like him tbf in the game now.
