2020 Round 1 Line up

1. Isaako
2. Perese
3. Staggs
4. Bird
5. Farnworth
6. Milford
7. Dearden
8. Lodge
9. Turpin
10. Haas
11. Fifita
12. Glenn (c)
13. Carrigan

14. Flegler
15. Joffa
16. Gillett
17. TPJ

29. Macca
30. Boyd

This would be my side assuming we signed literally nobody. Oates isn't there because I personally would let him go to get Croft or extend Fifita. Even so, with a side that looks like the above, nothing has changed from last year in terms of the teams makeup. It's still a world class forward pack carrying an unproven spine and a frankly average looking backline.

Well given Oates is signed on, I'd seriously be tempted to go with this:

1. Isaako/Niu/Bird
2. Oates/Coates
3. Staggs
4. Bird/Oates
5. Farnworth
6. Milford
7. Croft/Dearden
8. Lodge
9. Turpin
10. Haas
11. Fifita
12. TPJ
13. Glenn (c)

14. Paix
15. Joffa
16. Flegler
17. Carrigan

This will be it come Round 1, assuming we get Croft and McC and Boyd don't have license to be in the squad just because. Wouldn't be surprised to see Carrigan start though, which puts our 2nd row into question. Personally I would like to see TPJ coming on fresh around the 20 minute mark and just going apeshit. Glenn starts in the 12 as captain.

It isn't a bad option having Carrigan start. The other advantage to that is that is shows TPJ that he needs to re-earn that starting spot. I wouldn't be surprised if round 1 is as you say and that is a good side.

The fear of course is that Macca and Boyd will be on the teamsheet somewhere.

Assumptions - Glenn re-signs & Croft signs / McCullough, Gillett, Boyd are either moved on, or are forced to actually fight for their position in the team.

1. Bird (Pressured by Isaako, Arthars & Niu)
2. Oates
3. Boyd (Pressured by Perese, Arthars & Shibasaki)
4. Staggs
5. Isaako (Pressured by Farnworth, Perese, Arthars & Coates)
6. Milford (Pressured by Dearden & Paix)
7. Croft (Pressured by Dearden & Paix)
8. Lodge (c)
9. Turpin (Pressured by McCullough)
10. Haas
11. Fifita (c)
12. Pangai Jr (Pressured by Glenn & Gillett)
13. Carrigan

14. Glenn
15. Gillett
16. Ofahengaue
17. Flegler

It might seem odd to have 2 edge forwards & 2 props on the bench, but I think this is our best team composition. Fifita & Glenn both provide enough flexibility if there's an injury in the Centres / Wing, if there's an injury at Fullback, Isaako can cover, if there's an injury in the halves, Bird can cover.

Use Glenn as injury cover, and to spell Turpin for 25-30 mins at Hooker, use Gillett to spell Carrigan for 20-25 mins at Lock, use Ofahengaue & Flegler exclusively as props.

Hopefully Isaako can hold down the fullback spot. That allows them to have a Bird and Staggs centre pairing and presumably keeps Boyd out of the side.

AJ Brimson has told the Titans he's going to test the market, probably no chance of being able to afford him AND Croft, but you never know, if we can medically retire a couple of players, we might have the funds. He's a whole lot better than anyone of our current Fullback options.

Please make this happen, he would be a great addition in my opinion.

He will probably go to Souths.

This is interesting.....

In the case of Gillett, if what the NRL physio is saying is correct, then we wouldn't qualify.

Gillett was signed and upgraded while being sidelined with a broken neck.

So if this is in fact the rule, how the actual **** did Souths get away with retiring Inglis then?!

apparently it is a shoulder problem (that occurred late 2019) that could force Gillett to retire ... not the neck

Honestly, the whole medical retirement thing is starting to become a bit of a circus.

Well yeah, because NRL. They always cave in to pressure from a loved club and then they become consistently inconsistent thereafter.
