FOOTBALL 2022 FIFA World Cup

France beat Denmark 2-1 after a late goal in the 86th minute from Mbappe and France secure their spot in the Round of 16.

It's a good result for Australia as Denmark not winning means all Australia need to do is draw with Denmark.

And hope France beat or draw with Tunisia.

They're through to the next round now, so they could send out a weaker team or not turn up, and get their pants pulled down

France could send out their B team for the entire group stage and still come away with 3 wins. Tunisia will need to play the game of their lives.

True, but it's still a requirement for us to go through though.

Teams switch off once they qualify and players wont probably go as hard as they should to avoid injury or suspension. Tunisia are a very poor side though, cant see them doing anything.

Who plays first I wonder Aus vs Den or Fra vs Tun??

If Tunisia play first or still have a shot at making the next stage they'll go hard.

I think Australia winning is the only way Tunisia are completely out of making it through the group... OR Denmark putting 5 past Australia and having an insurmountable F/A

They’re played at the same time. They do this to prevent any shady behaviour.

Like if Australia played first and they draw their game but France didn’t want them to go through so they purposely lose to Tunisia.

Neither side really doing much with the ball in this game.

I was expecting more from Japan after their win against Germany, especially going up against Costa Rica who would have taken a hit mentally after their 7-0 flogging.

Typical of Japan.

They are a side that can produce a big upset, but then they will back that up with a below average performance which is exactly what happened here going down to Costa Rica.

This loss could prove costly for them.

I could see us beating Denmark, I said earlier in the discussion, they're not the team everyone expected they would be after their really solid Euros campaign.

They'll be harder to beat than Tunisia and if we do get a result it will undoubtedly be the biggest achievement since Johnny Aloisi stepped up to the spot against Uruguay, I think we can do it though.

Just don't lose. That's as good a scenario as Australia could hope for coming into match day 3.

Yep a draw will see them through and that worries me because it is in Arnold's nature to be incredibly conservative and Australia's defense cannot handle wave after wave. They aren't always going to get lucky like they did with Tunisia.

They have no speed on the break either, so sitting deep and playing on the counter isn't an option.

If we put 11 behind the ball then we're basically trying to play out a 0-0 draw

You can just see it coming from a mile away that Australia are going to play defensive looking for the draw, it's in their nature to play defensive. It's what we've been guilty of since after the '06 WC.

Eriksen has been in good form for Manchester United and I worry about him being given too much time to set up goals if we play defensive.
