Well I haven’t done a team list for a bit, so not factoring in any other roster changes (which no doubt will happen), I’d say we are looking at this as our best 17 at present (note this doesn’t mean that this is what Kevvie will choose):

1. Walsh
2. Oates
3. Farnworth
4. Cobbo
5. Mariner/Pereira
6. Mam
7. Reynolds (c)
8. Haas (sigh)
9. Smoothy
10. Jensen
11. Capewell
12. Robati
13. Carrigan (vc)

14. Paix
15. Flegler
16. Hetherington
17. Piakura

18. Staggs
19. Riki
20. Walters
21. Madden

22. Willison
23. Palasia
24. Te Kura
25. Mozer
26. Pereira/Mariner
27. Niu
28. ??
29. ??
30. ??

I cannot think of who I’m missing and I know some of this will be shot down but these are just my thoughts.

not a bad team by any stretch, but I would make a couple of changes.

I'd like to see Cobbo spend at least one more year on the wing, and I'd have Staggs inside him. even if Staggs isn't scoring a dozen tries during the year, him just being there is a big threat to the opposition, putting them in two minds and giving Cobbo extra room.

I also think that Cobbo and Staggs were starting to develop a good partnership (both in attack and defence) before origin. I'd like to see that continue

the other change i'd make is the second back row spot. i'm not sold on Robati as a starter. I'd be interested to know how he went in the QLD cup this year, I don't recall to much praise on here from the people that watch that comp. I'd probably still give Riki first shot, he was pretty good defensively this year (prior to us falling off the cliff). he was also running decent lines with his hands letting him down (sometimes due to the passes) ...

also have no idea about hooker ... whoever plays the best in the trials.

my team

1. Walsh
2. Oates
3. Herbie
4, Staggs
5, Cobbo
6. Mam
7. Arey (c)
8. Jensen
9. Smoothy/Paix/Walters
10. Haas
11. Riki
12. Capewell
13. Patty

14. Smoothy/Paix/Walters
15. Hethrington
16. Flegs
17. Piakura

18. Smoothy/Paix/Walters

People are picking Piakura sight unseen- his last two games were not good at all. His defence in the two biggest games went missing. You have a lot of work to do to turn around 11 missed tackles in a Grand Final.

All 2022 players off contract in 2023 have now either been extended or let go.

Kalolo Saitaua and Max Plath are on train and trial.

The club is rumoured to be interested in trialing:

Ben Marschke
Daejarn Asi
Jack Ahearn

I might’ve missed it but, has Smoothy signing been confirmed yet?

Tyler Coburn on train and trial
Quite an impressive talent:
"Tyler Coburn is artist and writer based in New York. He has presented work at Centre Pompidou, Paris; The Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; Bergen Kunsthall; Kunsthalle Wien; Hayward Gallery, London; Para Site, Hong Kong; and Art Sonje Center, Seoul"

I joke, I joke. Ipswich jets lock right? His stats don't seem too impressive but jets aren't exactly a gun side to build your stats up. Any good?

that's prob the team I'd run with too.
I still lean towards Billy as our 14 at this stage, as he can cover halves as needed also. Would be happy for him to play first 20 to soak up some defensive work before bringing on either Smoothy or Paix.
I definitely like Flegs off bench rather than starting too. Jensen is the 'Webke' no-frills workhorse that every team needs.

Would be happy for him to play first 20 to soak up some defensive work before bringing on either Smoothy or Paix.
In that case Turpin should have been the keeper. I’d be fucking horrified if billy Walters was earmarked to “soak up some defensive work”

Current 2023 squad according to Fox Sports. that's 27 in the top 30 leaving 3 spots to be filled.

note: they've named Palasia (but also have his contract expiry as this year) and haven't named Smoothy or Madden
