2023 State of Origin Discussion

If NSW pick Luai over Hynes I will be less butthurt if Walsh isn't picked.

Don't think I could pick Capewell or Nanai. Capewells utility value doesn't count this year imo because if he (or any other backrower) has to move to centre against Latrell/Turbo he will get torn to shreds. Our first choice centres will have a hard enough time.

Who do you go with instead?

I'd start with Arrow and Kaufusi with Fifita off the bench. But I won't complain if Nanai and Capewell are there.

Yeah you’d think it would be Capewell and Kaufusi because of loyalty on many years’ work but Fifita basically for the impact bench spot.

Yeah I think Fifita should get that 17 jersey.

Can start to integrate him into the squad to take over Capewell / Kaufusi who are getting near the end of their origin careers

No idea what QLD are doing for centres post-Gagai and Holmes. Probably Hammer is one by necessity, no idea who the other is.

Val is only 27/28yr old and not looking like slowing down at the moment... still has a few years left in him yet.

You'd hope Cobbo can jump up and become a mainstay in the back line somewhere

I'd be looking at Cobbo and maybe Sami. Apart from that Howarth if he can get regular footy at the storm and kick on.

How do we not pick Fotuaika at the moment? He's been unreal for the last month.

Last 4 games -

66 mins - 19 runs, 222 metres, 38 tackles
67 mins - 16 runs, 199 metres, 33 tackles
51 mins - 12 runs, 109 metres, 31 tackles
61 mins - 19 runs, 198 metres, 31 tackles

My current team -

1. Ponga
2. Oates
3. Holmes
4. Gagai
5. Cobbo
6. Munster
7. Cherry-Evans
8. Welch
9. Grant
10. Fa'asuamaleaui
11. Fifita
12. Kaufusi
13. Carrigan

14. Hunt
15. Arrow
16. Fotuaika
17. Collins

18. Walsh

Unlucky to miss out: Cotter, Gilbert, Horsburgh, Hopgood, Taulagi, Sami.

Simply can't be picked on current form: Papali'i, Nanai, Capewell, Coates.

I dunno if Fotuaika is close right now which is nuts considering QLD usually have no depth. But I would have Welch, Papalii, Tino, Carrigan, Cotter, Collins, Hosburgn and Flegler ahead of Mo right now. Crazy depth by qld standards.

Id play him over welch personally provides more impact imo

Running metres yeah. Defensively, especially when it comes to terrorizing Cleary, Welch is better.

I would have Welch over him as he does a lot of the 1% plays really well and they matter more than a few extra metres.

Because our forward pack dominated in game 3 last year and none of those guys deserve to be dropped based on a month of club stats
