9's day 1 wrap up

Corey Parker looks like a deadset tranny!

Get over yourself, mate. The point I'm making is that if a player doesn't play well why can't we just say that? Whether it's a friendly game of touch, an NRL game or 4 years. If they play bad why can't we just say it and leave excuses at the the door. The excuses thrown about for Milford have been embarrassing.

Milford did not have a good Nines tournament. To say otherwise, I think is inaccurate. Does that mean we bought a dud? Of course not. Does that mean he won't deliver when the season starts - Of course not. It simply is what it is.

I've resolved this season to commenting on what players actually deliver rather than what they potentially could deliver. Crazy idea, I know.

Thing is though no one has said he had a good tournament and many are acting like he is going to be barba 2.0

So....

I thought our juniors were left for dead by the other juniors that went to the nines, which goes to show
just what a good development system we have there we have access to more juniors than any other
club in the NRL but WELFARE and DEVELOPMENT of these kids let the club down big time. IMO
How do you figure this? We made the U20s GF 2014 so we were ahead of 14 other clubs

So Cult3, your picking on Wally when he had hair. He might just wish he still had that haircut:laugh:

You're right but the excuses are just pathetic. I can't believe more hasn't been made about his defense. Maybe the bulk of that discussion was in the Live Game thread. I haven't checked there. He didn't play well. Why can't we leave it at that? It tells it like it is rather than question the validity of the Nines tournament, the reason he didn't play well is because his team mates played worse, etc. Nonsense, imo.

I have no qualm with your other point. It's far too early to compare him to Barba. That is ridiculously over the top, imo.

I don't know how you can say the welfare of the juniors is a let down. We know **** all of what happens in the junior scene to make that kind of statement.

Milford has been made to do the main thing that caused Barba to be ineffective - bulk up. To play in the halves he had to do it, necessary evil. It remains to be seen how much of a difference it will make to his running game. It might have little effect, it might have a lot, but it will have an effect. Players can't just put on 4-5+ kilos and still retain the same agility and speed.

So much for Anthony Griffin being the scoundrel who invented the bulk up programme.......

So much for everybody wanting Milford in the halves.

Milford will be fine.

All will be well. Just wait and see.

He is back enjoying his Mum's cooking, Samoan Mum's are like Wog Mum's portion control is plenty and something is wrong if you do not have a second helping.

Might just take him a bit longer to get over the Christmas feeds.

Now in his third pre-season, Milford's body has matured from a slender 80kg three years ago to 92kg.

“I am trying to be a better defender. I am playing five-eighth and I am doing what I can to get in better shape,’’ he said.

“I am in the front line of defence now and I know the opposition is going to send a lot of traffic at me.

“I have put on a few kilos (of muscle) so far. The strength and conditioners at the Broncos are second to none.’’

He was listed at 85kg for this year. Surely he hasn't put on 7kg in the off season....

This. You can't have it both ways.

And some people seem to forget that they would have S&C specialists monitoring his progress. Probably dieticians as well. They would be doing all they can to maintain his speed/agility.

Those that did...still do

and those that didn't (like you) still don't.

Nothings changed because of a couple missed tackles in a 9's game. He missed a heap of tackles playing full back too (and a couple dropped high kicks for good measure)

And Griffin would have had S&C specialists monitoring the progress of the players when he was coach, but people had big problems (and rightly so in SOME cases) with his bulking program.

Milford was always going to need to put on some bulk since he is moving into the front line full time ... just like Locky when he moved into the front line full time

Allan Langer was also bulked up but did not affect his play. Barba was also bulked up but they forgot to bulk up his intestinal fortitude.
I think Milford will cope
