Anthony Milford Discussion

100%. In 2015 Milford would also be blairs shadow too and Blair had a licence to offload. All of that has been shelved for over a season now and I can't understand why.
We lost the 2015 GF because we shut up shop. We have lost a lot of games recently to the Cowboys because we have been too conservative.
What gives Bennett? Your premiership success with Brisbane had been built on great attacking football backed by good defence. Our success in 2000 and 2006 was defence driven. However, our 2017 game plan has to be attack driven. There is no leniency being shown to sides who try to slow the game down this year.

The great halves are able to get their team on the front foot with a good kicking game and smart play, which is something our halves can't do.

Milford is still young. He hasn't fully matured yet. He is still developing. People seriously need to give him some time. He will be a great player one day.
To be fair.. hunt's kicking was much better. He found space on several occasions.. is just their massive wingers. They're monsters. They stepped half the team Friday night on some of those kick returns. They'll be so hard to beat this year

Good players. In a generation without Thurston, would be playing for their third grand final in a row this year.

But lowest common denominator is they can't beat the Cowboys. What's the point then?

Hunt had a great night with the boot (in comparison to previous nights) found the grass between players a couple times which really highlighted how we can limit teams and apply pressure when he gets those kicks right... Its going to really piss me off if he starts kicking well this year and then ***** off next season.

It's happening. And then we're back to square one with Milford unless we have some miracle half back next year

It would be great to get Darren Nicholls back. I think he was really pushing Milf to his best.

ANTHONY Milford is on the verge of signing a $2.7 million upgrade that will see the Brisbane whiz-kid eclipse Darren Lockyer as the highest-paid player in Broncos history.
The Courier-Mail can reveal the Broncos are a fortnight away from formally announcing the retention of Milford, who will remain at Red Hill until the end of 2020.
The parties have entered the final stage of negotiations with Milford advising the Broncos he is ready to sign an extension.
Broncos recruitment chief Peter Nolan will look to finalise the richest deal in Brisbane’s 29-year history after Milford faces his former club, Canberra, this Friday night.

The Broncos have embarked on a $4 million retention drive in recent weeks with star trio Josh McGuire, Andrew McCullough and Corey Oates inking new deals.
Skipper Darius Boyd, who turns 30 in July, has also begun negotiations with the Broncos in the hope of securing a multi-year extension.
But Milford is the contractual centrepiece, with the Maroons hopeful regarded so highly by the Broncos they will sign off on a record three-year deal worth $900,000 a season.
It will rubberstamp the 22-year-old as Brisbane’s financial kingpin, surpassing Lockyer, who earned $700,000 annually at his peak in the No.6 jumper now worn by Milford.

Lockyer’s former teammate, legendary Broncos centre Steve Renouf, hailed Milford as a future captain and compared his matchwinning brilliance to halfback icon Allan Langer.
“I’m glad he is staying at the Broncos. He can be another Allan Langer and the Broncos should build their empire around him,” Renouf said.
“He is a lot like ‘Alfie’ (Langer) in that the opposition will do all their homework on him, but they still can’t stop him and Anthony is very much like that.
“Milford will get even better as he matures and I think we are looking at the future captain of the Broncos.
“Anthony is already a class player but if he keeps performing, he can be a true great in the years to come.”

The Broncos have been working on Milford’s extension since October. Brisbane hierarchy ramped-up talks with Milford’s manager Sam Ayoub on Monday, aware the five-eighth has no interest in going to the open market and wants his future sorted out.
Ayoub says negotiations haven’t been helped by the NRL’s unknown salary-cap figure for next season, but Broncos hierarchy have zero fear of losing Milford.
“We are in a process with the Broncos,” Ayoub said. “In an ideal world there would be a CBA (Collective Bargaining Agreement) in place and we could get a deal done right now. But Anthony is very happy and there’s no standoff at all, talks are going well.”
Renouf said the Broncos couldn’t afford to lose Milford after his halves partner Ben Hunt inked a $6 million deal with the Dragons from next season.
“Ben Hunt is leaving and if we lost both it would have been a massive blow for the Broncos,” Renouf said. “Anthony is such an outstanding young player that he has to be there for the future of the club.”

Channel 9 are saying Milford is staying with us and he us about to sign a 3 year deal worth in excess of 1 million a season.

$900k per season is a lot for a player who goes missing for half a season at a time.

Hopefully the penny finally drops and he strings some good games together..

I heard it was actually 700k a year with an extra 200k worth of buffet dinners at the Broncos Leagues Club.

The same bonus deal Owen Craigie had at the clubs he played with after leaving Newcastle.

As I once said, there comes a time when we have to fork out the money to keep these players otherwise they will leave and the other club will receive the benefits.

It's close to the same deal we would have to offer Brooks if he came to the club.

Milford has a lot more upside. He just needs time to develop and a halves partner that will take pressure off him.
