Areas That Need Fixing for 2017

Signing a quality prop like Napa would be a fantastic start. Especially since we've lost Parker and Wallace. Wallace had been one of our best.
Get some fire in our defence. Big difference between last year is that the team was hitting hard.
Finally, get fucking Johns or Kimmorley as a halves coach. Someone to teach some proper game management skills.
Oh, and in the near future, sign Cam Smith as a coach.

Aren't there weeks off for origin next year, or is that the year after? Rip your typical garbage teams who go through a "mid year resurgence". Channel nine won't be happy with it, but thank god they're losing influence.

Also, I'd love a few more Sunday games. We'd have a 45k crowd average if the nrl switched Friday and Sunday for the Broncs. Teams can whinge about us, but take solace in the fact that without us the comp would sink.

Stop the team making 60m a set would be a good start. We just gifted them field last night. If it's not through their running back of the ball, it's us dropping the ball, and giving away absolutely **** weak penalties.

A lot to look forward to next year.

Perhaps a chance at a bit of coach 're-framing' too. There might have been reasons but there were a few strange decisions last night.

Opacic got hooked and Glenn finished in the centres, where Feldt burnt him for speed and this ultimately cost us the game.

Parker was hooked for the last 5 minutes of the game and that was the only time TPJ got on the park.

McCullough sat on the sidelines for 20 minutes for no obvious reason before he came back on, so if it was injury related it was resolved and he went back on. McGuire, the world's worst dummy half filled in there while he was off.

Very unusual choices there and not dictated by injury, seemingly.

It's pretty clear cut what our priorities are which is a good thing. Everyone is on the same page, hopefully the club adresses some of the issues.

1. Front row. Sign 1 or 2 big boppers to replace Wallace and Parker if we can afford it. Napa and Vaughn keep getting thrown around, one of them would be perfect.

2. Halves game management & kicking. Locky really needs to work with them. They have the potential to be anything.

3. Work really hard with Arrow, Offa, TPJ, Su'a, Ese, Fai & what ever fringe forwards are coming through. They have all (except Fai) had there slow Bennett style introduction into first grade which is great. But if we don't sign anyone else or if we get an injury we are really going to need to rely on these guys. Next year a few will really need to have a breakout year.

4. Goal kicking! Kahu & Milf or who ever we go with needs to put alot of hard work in here. It has lost us far too many games for years.

Tom didnt get hooked for no reason, as i'm sure will become apparent in the near future.

Kicking. All facets. It must be completely worked over. It is by far our biggest weakness. If Hunt can't get it together than find someone who will. Adam Reynolds would be perfect but good luck getting him. Have Kahu practicing goal kicking all off season.

Also get some big props on the books and work on the teams composure under pressure.

Why do we need a couple of cockroaches when we have on hand, Langer, Walters and Lockyer? 3 of the best halves to ever play the game.

^^THIS^^...we should get in early. I reckon he'll turn into one of the all time greats.

I can understand Bennett not having trust in TPJ, especially with the game so tight. There were cracks starting to appear around the ruck, and throwing in TPJ could of been a bad outcome. I think that's why when we needed a change, he brought on Arrow, who is probably defensively better than Pangai. I don't think we ever seen Arrow come on after 25 minutes. As for people criticising Parker constantly being down on his haunches, lets not forget the frantic pace of the game. There were no stoppages, and Parker being in the middle had to handle the likes of Scott, Taumalolo, and Tamou. Their rotation was a point of difference, while our bench at this stage, is too young and inexperienced. Its good for the future though.

Milford's hands. Holy shit he's terrible at holding the ball. I can't remember a half we've had who drops the ball as much as he does.

If he's in the team you just gotta trust him to do the job. He had fresh legs and boy did we need them

Sometimes we need an outside voice. All three are Broncos legends, and the fact the players see them around the club constantly, probably doesn't always have the desired effect when they're called upon as a specialist coach as someone from the outside might have, someone who has no connection to the Broncos. We need someone who is direct, objective and knows what they're doing. Not all great players make capable coaches.

In saying that, Walters did have success with Hunt and Milford, and to be honest, I think it was missing this year. The fact he is the Queensland Coach also puts more weight to whatever he is telling them, but whether he's allowed to come back to a club team is another matter.

I'd personally look at Andrew Johns. He could teach Hunt the ins and out of halfback play. They have similarities in style, but Hunt lacks a bit of polish. Have a look at what he's done with DCE and Pearce in particular. One of Pearce's major criticisms was how he couldn't finish off a set and build pressure with his kicking game as well as his decision making. I've seen a direct improvement in those areas since Joeys appointment, and he looks a much better player when he did return from his suspension.

Yeah I agree he should of been used, I'm just stating I can understand Bennett's view. The game didn't pan out according to plan, especially in the back end of the match. In saying that, I would of brought on TPJ late in the first half when they had the likes of Scott, Taumalolo, Tamou and even Granville off. TPJ could of gotten us the upper hand then, and also early in the second half.

Yeah its strange. Even when catching the ball off a pass, he seems to snatch at the ball whilst simultaneously trying to step for no reason when the defence isn't even near him. Plus in contact, he seems to lose it pretty easily.

When you look at the work Matty Johns did working with Cronk at Melbourne, maybe he is the one we need.

He needs some one on one coaching on how to hold the damn ball while running with it so it doesn't pop out anytime he's in a tough tackle, and maybe some super glue.

Probably 'cos he's still transitioning somewhere between FB and 5/8, and still wanting to play a lot more adlib and off the cuff - like ball running rather than ball playing/play making - rather than being forced into rigid structures? (Maybe the same goes for Hunt and Roberts?)

Anyway, Milf for one will get there

Because these 3 haven't shown any success so far. They were all fantastic players, but they haven't done much as halves coaches. Langer was a big talent, but he wasn't particularly structured in his play. Walters... well Bennett rejected him. Lockyer hasn't had much success coaching the halves so far either.

Johns has had a pretty good track record with coaching halves. And Kimmorley was one of the all time best organising halves. Maybe we just need to bring someone from the outside.
