Areas That Need Fixing for 2017

I don't think there's any excuse to have such poor hands. He's been a league player his whole life, and has been in first grade for a good 3 - 4 years now. It's not like it's a once off, I don't think he's went one game this season without dropping the ball. Can't be stuffed checking stats but he would average 2 erros a game easily.

I more or less echo what others have said, the standouts for me:

1) Get some bigger boys on board. If possible I'd definitely be looking into Paul Vaughan who is clearly out of favour at the Raiders. I rate the guy and a change of scenery really might help him. Interested to see how Arrow goes next year - hasn't been awful but hasn't been a standout whens hes been on the field either.

2) Kicking game. Obviously Hunt needs a bit of work, but I'd like them to introduce some others as well. Would be useful if Milford/Macca could get more involved so the defence isn't always targeting Hunt.

He's got 25 for the season, Ben Hunt has 24.

He needs some one on one coaching on how to hold the damn ball while running with it so it doesn't pop out anytime he's in a tough tackle, and maybe some super glue.

Maybe a session with a front rower will help. Perhaps Civoniceva? He rarely knocked on and he'll easily teach Milford how to safely secure the ball going into contact.

When you look at the work Matty Johns did working with Cronk at Melbourne, maybe he is the one we need.

I was going to mention Matty Johns, but I doubt he'll want to become a specialist coach again, especially with all his media commitments at Foxsports.

I would have thought Hunt has been practising his kicking game for years, it hasn't improved to date, not sure what another off season is going to do to help him. I reckon even if Jesus comes to town to assist we would be having the same discussion next year.

It depends on his dedication i suppose. Cronk is the obvious example of somebody who wasnt the greatest talent wise, not a natural half back but with drive to succeed he trained himself to become effective. I dont think Hunt has that attention to detail Cronk does, but then again, not many do.

Yeah I agree he should of been used, I'm just stating I can understand Bennett's view. The game didn't pan out according to plan, especially in the back end of the match. In saying that, I would of brought on TPJ late in the first half when they had the likes of Scott, Taumalolo, Tamou and even Granville off. TPJ could of gotten us the upper hand then, and also early in the second half.

Which is what most of us can't understand. Maybe Bennett doesn't trust the guy.....so throwing him on with the game on the line is a good idea? I understand his thinking, fresh legs when every other player is gassed, but it shouldn't have come to that. I'd much rather he'd come on, as you say late in the 1st half and then into the 2nd. Giving him the opportunity to play while some of their most experienced and damaging players were off the field. Not to mention, giving whoever he replaced a bigger breather. That's not a hindsight comment either, these games have been tight for some time now and last night was played at ridiculous pace. A pace which I think will cost the cows next week btw.

Defensive line speed - Yes, from a points per game perspective we have a good defence. But giving extra opportunity for cross field bombs and plays on our goal line Is fraught with danger.

No more Reed/Opacic type players - Yes, I will get my head bit off. But Milford suffers because the opposition right centre can jam in on him because he's not worried about Reed/Opacic burning him for pace on the outside. It stifles Milford's running game which is his strongest asset.

Reed was fantastic before he probably shortened his career by playing injured, I would be more than happy with the Jack Reed we had when he first came into the team, and Opacic has been playing injured for most of his first grade career with us. As has been reported in the press now, he has actually been playing with the ligament torn off his shoulder, plus he had another injury last night which hasn't been reported in the press so I think any criticism of him is pretty harsh considering what he has been playing through. There is a lot more to his game than he has had the chance to show due to his injury, it's effected most aspects of his game and he has still proved effective mostly.

Because these 3 haven't shown any success so far. They were all fantastic players, but they haven't done much as halves coaches. Langer was a big talent, but he wasn't particularly structured in his play. Walters... well Bennett rejected him. Lockyer hasn't had much success coaching the halves so far either.

Johns has had a pretty good track record with coaching halves. And Kimmorley was one of the all time best organising halves. Maybe we just need to bring someone from the outside.
I'm sure any of those 3 have ever really had a role coaching the halves.

The only time i remember was early on when Locky offered his services and there were reports that Milf turned him down as he wanted to do it himself.

Walters wasn't there this year and the our halves form wasn't at the same level as last season ... coincidence?

Composure in tight situations and the ability to close out the important games. We should've closed out the game last night but we didn't. We should also be more consistent throughout the season our slump in the middle of the year cost us badly. Will be difficult replacing Parker next year.

I still can't believe Milford would have the bolos to turn down locky's tutelage. That's just dead set cocky and arrogance. Surely it's not true.

I remember hunt was happy that Kevin Walter was come back and Milford said he don't think Broncos need Kevin Walter. Locky was happy to help Milford but he turn down.

Milford just wants to keep dancing on the spot in front of the defence, he thinks he can master it.

Milford and Hunt (and any half for that matter) need to play off the back of a dominant pack.

While our forwards were courageous at times during the year, there were few instances where they dominated the opposition.

For mine, this is the area that needs addressing first.

I'm just wondering if all the talk from the media and fans that our halves need to learn to steer the ship around better didn't hurt their confidence and took them away from what was successful last year.

Look at Milford for example. Last year and even at the start of this year he was buzzing around looking for offloads, popping up on either side of the ruck, getting involved, not really playing to any structure and absolutely killing it. The second half of the year though, he just parked himself on the one side of the ruck and just looked like he was going through the motions and trying to fake it that he can organise.

I understand that as a half you need to have some sort of organisational skills but I tend to think you play to your strengths and I don't think either of them did that at the end of the year. They looked like they were trying too hard to be the perfect organisational half and it didn't work for them. Last year though.......

Surely this all has to be bullshit!!

The kid just doesn't appear to be that arrogant for mine.....and really, it would be a WB call. If Wayne wants you to listen to someone....you're going to fucking listen.
