Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted

In other news, Taylor scores a try, sets up 4 and kicks 3 goals, leading Broncos to a comfortable win.

Be fair mate. You're not telling the whole story.

The try was a two yard effort down the blindside after his winger took an intercept. He scored, but he should have been thrown over the sideline. Was bad defence. Wasn't great halfback play.

Which three tries did he set up? I was watching him like a hawk and I don't recall them. Can you refresh my memory? I'm not being smart, I just don't remember them.

On the goals issue, he missed the first two (admittedly from touch).

My take away from that game was how terrible Brisbane's defence was (particularly on Drew's side).

Frankly, I wasn't all that fussed about Taylor. Hunt and Milford are so far in front of him its unbelievable.

Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted

He made Luke Brooks look like a good goal line defender. Also missed a tackle and turned to yell at his inside man because it was obviously not his fault. Sorry for pointing out the 3 things that happened right in front of me.

Tell the full-story next time, don't focus in on the negatives and give fans the wrong impression.

Your analysis would be like writing off Milford's game on his efforts on Naiqama and Cherrington...

Like a hawk? Or like a bat?

He set up four tries in the second half alone...

Grubber kick to Te Rupe

Cut-out pass to Drew

Foot-work then pass to Drew

Inside pass to Byrnes which was about as identical as the Milford one later.

Full story? Like everyone who has ever written anything about what Ash Taylor has done? I rarely ever see anything about his piss poor attempts at defending by the media or people who say they watch his games. My analysis would be like that, if Naiqama and Cherrington were teenagers who aren't yet good enough for first grade.

Speaking of which, Ash Taylor isn't good enough for first grade yet. Even if Milford was at fullback, he would be defending in the front line like Boyd has been which would completely ruin our defensive line. 5 tries let in between Milford and Taylor would have led to a lot more losses this season.

I'm not boasting when I say I write as much as anyone about the Holden Cup and have written a lot about Ash Taylor. What has been my main take-home? "He shouldn't be a regular first grader until he's 21."

That doesn't stop me from giving credit where it's due and if you want people to take you seriously you ought to do the same.

Taylor will never be Tony Carroll, neither will Milford, but inserted in a structure and with some training, their talent more than makes up for their defensive flaws. You keep hammering about Taylor's defense, but conveniently forget about the rest of his game.

Most halves are weak defenders, that is a given, especially when they get isolated by the opposition. Of course they need to train that aspect as much as possible, but it is as much the responsibility of the coaching staff and the players around them to mitigate that problem.

Yesterday, you could say that Taylor was mostly responsible for letting 2 tries in, but it was smart play by the opposition (in the same way Milford was mostly responsible for 3 tries we leaked against the Cowboys). But Ash was also mostly responsible for 5 tries in our favour and kicked 3 goals, yet none of that makes your post...

Our best player ever was also one of, if not the worst ever defender (in the line) at the Broncos.
In contrast, our worst halfbacks ever, were very good defenders!

Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted

Really? I just pointed out that he let in 3 tries (Yes, 3) because nobody else did, including those on Twitter. I am not going to suck his dick like the media and everyone else on here does. I don't care if nobody takes me seriously on here. I post things and someone posts the same thing ten minutes later and get's a bunch of likes. This place is a popularity contest where only a few people's opinions are actually appreciated.

Because BP says "He shouldn't be a regular first grader until he's 21." I don't get an opinion on his terrible defensive abilities? Ashley Taylor's attacking prowess has been spoken about a thousand times but nobody has spoken about the fact he disappears in games when his team is behind, he doesn't control the game like some think he does, he can't tackle, he yells at his team mates when he makes a mistake and that is because those who are taken seriously don't talk about it or don't actually watch the games. But I wouldn't want to give fans the wrong impression, would I?

Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted

If I were writing in the 'NYC Game' thread then fair enough, but I am in the 'Should Ash Taylor be Promoted' thread and my answer is no because he let someone through without even touching them and then blamed his inside man by yelling at him.

Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted

Giving a balanced opinion doesn't equate to sucking dick. Have no idea where you've got that from but it explains a lot.

To be fair Big Pete it cuts both ways. You can't chastise someone that only talks about his defensive issues but also take no exception to the people that only highlight his good points whilst acting like letting in 3 tries against teenagers is no big deal.

I wasn't necessarily talking about you, but what does it explain?

It does and I've called both sides out on it.

I only watched the second half but he was close to the best player on the field and ignoring his contributions while focusing solely on the flaws is a distorted view. It'd be like ignoring all the positives from Milford's performance and only focusing on the defensive issues, errors and the other flaws in his performance.

Which isn't to say Taylor = Milford, rather both players deserved credit for their respective performances.

Fair enough and I agree, I hadn't seen you call out the ignorance of defensive issues but I'm sure you have and I missed it so I take my comment back

Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted

I've written about Taylor's flaws on a number of occasions. Not just in match reports but in instances where I argued that Milford was the best five eighth at the club. That doesn't mean I can't give credit where it's due or take the Raiders route where as soon as he's off somewhere else he's a liability.
Cult3 - Unless you enjoy sucking dick, it's self-explanatory.

Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted

There is absolutely no question that Taylor needs to work on the defensive side of his game. However, IMO, his positives dar outweigh his negatives. As Porthoz briefly touched on, many halves come into first grade as weak to average defenders, but they get selected on their attacking prowess.

Lets take a look a a few examples:

Darren Lockyer - was an poor defender when he first made the grade as a fullback with us. But the coaching staff saw how good he was with the ball in his hands, so gave him a shot with the plan to work on his defense to the point that he was no longer a defensive liability. That took a couple of seasons.then we required that he move to 5/8 and again he was an average defender, there is a reason that we assigned TC as his "bodyguard".

Anthony Milford has a similar story. In fact even this year, which is his 3rd year in first grade, he has had his defensive problems. Michael Morgan strolled past him to score 3 tries when we played the Cowbiys this year. But his attacking abilities far out weigh his defensive problems. So he stays in the team, while the coaching staff work on them.

Then you have Peter Wallace... One of the best defensive halves in the NRL, but can't attack his way out of a wet paper bag

I know which type of half I'd rather have in my team. Defense tends to be easier to teach than attack as well.

FTR, Bennett has been quoted as saying that for his development that Taylor be playing NRL, and since we can't offer him that, he is prepared to release him in the best interest of Taylor.

Also let me be clear, I'm not saying Taylor is necessarily as good as Lockyer or Milford. But he does have enormous potential and i just used Locky and Milf as examples

I appreciate you.

But don't go whining about not getting "likes" again. It makes you sound like a pussy......

You're better than that.

You missed my point, I said I don't care.
