Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted

Tbh I'm sick of reading 'guaranteed when this happens this will happen'.

That's all we seem to hear and that's all we heard during the off season. Many of the 'guarantees' haven't come true, yet they just aren't addressed. So basically its "I'll tell you what's going to happen... But when it doesn't lets just ignore that"
Other than what Ari just said, when has that happened?

There are no guarantees either way. All anyone can say, is what they believe to be the most likely outcome.

Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted

Top of the table, let's change the halves
Manly moved on Hodgo to accomodate DCE.
Salary cap pressures could dictate it in a couple of years. We have a couple of years to sort through whether our halves are up to scratch. WB has stated that Milford will be given the season at 5/8 before a report card is presented

Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted

It would be tempting to send Taylor ISC. But he's to valuable to the 20s. I can see a step up for him next year, what happens after that, who knows. You can't keep'em all. Would be a shame though.

Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted

To everyone who jokes about changing halves when top of the table.

Last team who did it was Souths. They won a premiership.

Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted

Well he is now the Australian U20s half which doesn't guarantee he will make it but he sure as hell shows a lot of potential

Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted

Pfffft ....Luke Keary was already a fixture in the side. They just had to figure out a way to have him on the field more.

Huugggeee difference to the suggestion of throwing in an untried and unproven 20yr NYC half.

Oh c'mon. Keary was older than Taylor is and had already played plenty of NSW cup. There is no comparison

Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted

I have already stated I would not be looking at a change before 2017 and everything may fall into place by then, he may not come on as expected

Your argument was that it's dumb to change halves when top of the table. I was pointing out that it's not as dumb as you were making out.

Souths didn't stop looking at ways to improve the team. The people who want Taylor in the team do so because even though we're top we think there's a way to improve the team.

Destabilising a halves combination that is slowly getting better each week, at this point of the season for a kid that hasn't played a game against men yet is not improving the team

Nah, that's unheard of. It's desperation.

Such a mature way to have a discussion.

Maybe you can comment on my reply to ari's post instead?

Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted

Turned to nothing? Is their career over?

They're both young and the first players called on if the Storm need them. They're two stupid comparisons to make. Because they're being developed in ISC and playing NRL when they get a chance.
In context, they're not stupid comparisons. The argument is to change a spine of established players like Boyd, Hunt, Milford and Macca to make way for Taylor - that's all fine and dandy but I don't agree with it. Slater has been replaced by Munster while injured, and Slater is just flat out better at this point in their careers, so the grass isn't always greener on the junior side of the fence.

Being "first called on" is hardly compliment of the year either, Whitchurch and Maranta (and I like Maranta!) are "first called on", and they're hardly stars. Whitchurch is still unproven, Maranta is a reliable player.
As for being "developed in ISC and playing NRL when they get a chance"... That's exactly what I want! I'm happy for Taylor to develop that way, I just don't think he should be immediately thrown in as first choice 6 or 7 full time.

Juniors are often too over hyped and it irks me that a guy like Boyd is talked down to talk up a guy who is 20 and hasn't even played first grade yet. Boyd won a premiership in the NRL before his 20th birthday, was playing for Australia and Queensland at age 20 and played a key part in another premiership by age 23. Hardly the makings of a player who doesn't even deserve a shot at fullback and should be shifted to the wing before he's even allowed to prove his worth in the spine of a team he's just re-joined.

People can "not rate" him all they like, but to write him off for the sake of a unproven reserve grader is in my view, ridiuclous. Taylor is signed till next year, it's not "now or never", he can bide his time and prove his worth by being consistently very good in the reserve grades, injuries, player transfers and many other potential factors will get him chances in first grade, it's then up to him to prove he deserves to stay there.
