Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted

I think I may be wavering a bit on whether or not he should be a 2015 contributor to the firsts. I know a lot of people have been following him and singing his praises and it's hard to believe they are all average judges. I suppose I didn't realise he was 20 and I kind of had it in my head he was a fair bit younger . Standing out in your first ISC game in such a demanding position is no mean feat but more so when your team is one of the struggling sides. I would like to see him stay in the ISC if able but I understand that there are probably things going on in the background so I guess in WB I trust !

Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted

Will be interesting to see how he goes on the weekend against the Falcons.

While the Magpies aren't the best team, it isn't like they've faced off against Townsville, Wynnum or Ipswich. Redcliffe were only ahead of them on F/A last weekend and the Falcons only have an extra win so it isn't like he's performing against all odds and I think that's a fair decision by the coaching staff.

Give him the experience at a time that suits him and see how he handles it.

MANLY and the Gold Coast have upped the ante in pursuit of Broncos prodigy Ashley Taylor who has attracted a $200,000 per year offer to leave Brisbane.

However, the 20-year-old Junior Kangaroos half has told The Courier-Mail he wants to remain loyal to Brisbane even though his first grade future is blocked at the club.

It is understood Wayne Bennett rates Taylor highly and will find a way to get him into his first grade team within the next 12 months.

Star halves talent Anthony Milford and Ben Hunt are stopping Taylor’s progression at the Broncos.

Taylor has not asked for a release and it is understood the Broncos are determined to keep a player they have contracted until the end of 2016.

Taylor, Joe Ofahengaue and Jayden Nikorima are the Broncos young guns being hunted by rival clubs.

“We have all come through the grades together and it would be great to all stick together,” Taylor said.

Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted

I hope he doesn't put him in the squad just to keep him here.

Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted

I don't even really see where he can put him in our 17 without causing a massive re-shuffle, the best bet is maybe bring him on as a bench hooker / utility next season in a similar role to what Hunt did with us. And then I dunno what comes next, maybe re-sign him and move Darius to centre/wing and Milford to fullback in 2017 or something, we'll have to wait and see how everyone in our spine performs over the next 18 months before we think about that stuff.

Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted

At this point I am liking:

1. Boyd

6. Milford
7. Taylor

9. Hunt

Well, it would maybe address Macca's rather s l o w service from dummy half - Granville showed him up for mine big time except for his good defensive work, but Milford's front on, one-on-one defence is becoming a real worry. There's a lot of work to be done there.

As much as I was a die hard Milford as FB person, watching Boyd do so well last night I have changed my mind. Boyd seems to be the answer. Milford needs a LOT of work on his defence. I mean letting in 3 tries ......

If this comes true I will have been 100% wrong about WB and I will be 1000% happier. Also great that he wants to stay loyal.

Hunt has proven himself to be an excellent half with an average kicking game not up to the task of being the team's only kicker. None of these qualities make him an excellent candidate for hooker and frankly, McCullough has been a lot better this year. I don't think he deserves to be shafted, and certainly not for Hunt, who has been our 2nd best half this side of 2000. Plus, his main downfall, kicking, is an area where Taylor helps the team immensely.

1. Milford
4. Boyd
6/7. Hunt
6/7. Taylor
9.McCullough

That's what I want to see. Even if you wanted Boyd at fullback, then you can just swap Milford and Boyd around. Either way, the centre could operate like Hodges does, drifting around from time to time. Should be noted this assumes Hodges has retired by this point, in which case it is Reed's spot that Boyd can have.

If it's best for the team in the next couple of years, I'm fine with Darius moving to centre, he proved last night that he can draw defenders and put an outside man in a gap easy as ****.

^^^This I like (although admittedly, I'm guessing about Taylor)

McCullough is never going to make it as a first rate no.9.

Hunt's defence is strong enough to handle it.

I like Boyd at FB because he is by far safer than Milford defensively and could easily swap with Milford in attack, giving Milford the opportunity to roam for periods of the game.

Of our spine at the moment, McCullough is the weakest link.

Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted

Field goal to get Souths home- 35-4.

Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted

Field goal to get Souths home? Looks like they were well an truly home before he chimed in.

Anyway. Put him in the first grade squad. We don't want someone to leave.

Yeah, imagine if they scored 5 tries in that last 6 minutes...

Re: Should Ashley Taylor Be Promoted

Mmmmmm some people don't really pick up on social cues like humour. Would have thought the giving the time left and asking if he was practising was a give away but guess you've got to score points and be tough somehow.

Field goal prowess aside, how was his performance?
