Australia vs India - Test Series

Why do the selectors have hard ons for shit all rounders who are in a brief period of form? I thought we were done after Mitch Marsh, now we have the media crowing on about Abbott...

EDIT: I reckon India are favourites to win the first test if Burns is at the top and Green isn't in the team somewhere. Aus will win the series when the right selections are made, and Kohli has gone back to India, after an Adelaide loss.

Goodness, they've totally nailed it and very happy Abbott is in there too, he has an excellent season so far.

I mean, Abbott is OK if we're playing on a flat track and Starc or someone is being 'rotated' or is injured, but otherwise Green should be in the team. Another thing to consider is that once a player like Abbott has made the team he's like to stay there for 20+ tests (look at Marsh).

How is it brief period of form? He's averaged 47 in his last two years of Shield cricket and has 65 wickets.

Yeah, Abbott has been really good for the last few years, in all formats as well.

Honestly the shield games and cricket season has me really interested, its the most pumped I've been for a while (more that current origin series).

I really don't rate Abbott at all. His last few years in Shield has been very good admittedly, but I don't feel he is test standard at this stage. Can't see him getting any tests this series. Green is a better talent, but still too raw and probably 1 season too early for him this year. He could very well be our long term 6 however.

Really pumped for Pucovski however, now he looks to be an amazing talent. I'm a big fan of Burns, and was always pushing for him to retain opening spot, but geez Pucovski is making a real case for himself. Its going to be challenging to not pick him at some stage this series.

Isn't that in his last 20 shield innings? That's brief in my books, especially when someone like BJ is claiming that Puco hasn't played enough shield cricket to warrant a call up.

EDIT: if he performs well then it's a genius call by the selectors and I look like an idiot. However, Labu is the only bloke I can think of in recent memory who has been picked with crap overall FC stats and then turned into a superstar.

You're contradicting yourself, if Abbott can't be there because two years of form isn't enough then Green and Pucovski can't either- they haven't even played a full SS season. Pucovski has 28 SS innings and Green has 19.

Steve Waugh was batting at nine and only played 11 matches before his Test debut, Healy only played eight games for Queensland, Warne seven games, McGrath eight, Bradman nine.

Holy moly the test series starts Friday.

It's going to be a fantastic weekend!

Heck, I've been without cricket for so long that I'm even keen for the ODI's, lol.

Langer confirmed a couple of things today:

If Pucovski makes the side, it'll be as an opener, he's no chance in the middle order.

Middle order is pretty much set for the first Test already - Nobody pushing ahead of Labuschagne, Smith, Head or Wade.

Rohit and Ishant out of at least the first two tests
