Australian Cricket Team admit to ball tampering

That's why I think they've misread the situation. For a long time it's been oh silly scamp the dark arts of bowling scratched it on concrete, scratched it with a bottle top. Sit out a game.

Bowlers share these secrets like they are passing on family recipes. The best gum to use the amount of sugar you need in the lolly.

Now it's gone from tsk tsk to life bans. I don't think they saw that coming. They misread the pub test.

But you have completely missed the point. If this was just Bancroft on his own roughing up the ball, then yes tsk tsk sit down for a match.

The calculated planning by the 2 most senior people in the team, that were too gutless to do it themselves and made the new kid do it. The attempt to cover it up and then throwing the kid under the bus in the press conference; it is all this stuff that has mad eit so much worse.

I think it was the Knights under the eighth immortal who used to pour water on the ball before kicking off to the opposition.

I haven't missed the point at all. I am saying Warner etc have obviously thought the reaction would be the same as before and it hasn't been.

I understand why, I don't think they did; although I honestly wouldn't have thought it would be like this either.

Lehmann quitting, stories about it being Warner’s idea, Smith just covering for everyone...

I get the feeling they’re trying to distance Smith from this as much as possible. He’s CA’s most valuable asset by a massive margin.

As good as Warner is, it is a team sport and you don't need jerks with massive egos in a side if they can't respect the rules and cowardly throw their teammates under the bus. No pity if he never plays for Australia again after all the rubbish he has pulled IF he is behind this as well.

He can enjoy being at home unemployed watching everything on his Oled TV.

“Those in the hierarchy at CA have been made aware of suggestions that the vice-captain was the chief conspirator and that Smith foolishly agreed,” the report read.

Pretty much as I said, that's how it felt. Warner's mental, he probably strong armed them in to agreeing with it. Wouldn't mind if we just throw all of the blame on him to be honest. Would prefer a 12 month ban for Warner than 6 month bans for multiple players.

He made me do it ends at 8 if that. I don't want a captain that can't know right from wrong and doesn't own the team. Either way Smith was terrible at his job; his idea he's terrible and going along with anything someone says he is still terrible.

Without a doubt and as a result he DEFINITELY shouldn't be captain but if he is just weak and therefore agreed, it is just that little bit better than him being the idiot behind it all. It definitely matches Warner's MO, so time will tell I guess.

The question now becomes - who should be the next captain since it really can't be Smith anymore. Do you give it to Paine as a stop-gap or think long-term and give it to MMarsh / Handscomb / Renshaw / Cummins?

I don't think it's better at all. It means he's a terrible team man and a terrible leader. Why would you want that in your team? He's still an idiot who thought it was a great idea.

In some way thinking that's awesome let's do it is worse than coming up with a stupid idea.

In no ways is Smith being pressured to sign off on a stupid idea as bad as Warner hatching the idea, pressuring everyone to go along with it and forcing the youngest member of the team to do the dirty work.

Smith deserves to lose his captaincy, and probably serve a 5 match ban, Warner deserves 12 months to life. (If we're assuming everything the media is coming out with is true, and he's gone rogue / has no care in the world for his teammates.)

People come up with stupid ideas all the time in dressing rooms or under pressure. You can't have leaders just sitting there saying good idea.

How many times do you think a player has said to Bennett in the dressingroom I am going to do this.....does he say yep cool do it.

You're there to control the ideas and stupidity not join it. That's why I think it's just as bad.

It's like a teacher going along with the kids- Ummm didn't think to be the voice of reason?

If that's the case, Warner must speak up.

It was only a matter of time before his inner Hayne came out and took over.

Faf having a lolly in his mouth isn't the same as a meeting at lunch time and a plan to cheat involving the coach.

SOK that guy that gets banned and arrested every 5 weeks? Hard to believe he can't stay in the team.

When does tampering start becoming unacceptable? Are lollies or gum OK but scratching the seam with your fingernails a no no? Can you use anything as long as it's not a foreign agent (so blood or any other bodily fluid is OK)?

SOK was averaging sub 25 with the ball when Lyon, with a domestic average of close to 40, was originally picked over him. His most severe drinking incident was recent. Dave Hussey with a domestic batting average of 55 was constantly over looked for bang average rands like Marcus North and Marsh. Siddle and Hilfenhaus were dreadful compared to the options but were both part of the 'crew'.
