OFFICIAL Ben Hunt returns home to Broncos on two-year deal

So they should be.

They threw the bank at him, gave him all the support in the world, backed him before they backed any other coach, he was supposed to be their man. One finals appearance?

I'd be salty too.

one player can never do it on their own. Hunt had **** all talent around him. and even with that lack of talent, he was still able to conjure up 34 try assists to top the league last year

the Dragons recruitment team is the second worst in the game. (Tigers have the worst).

Hunt was carrying that team.

Been too many nice pieces written about this signing, had to throw this in one of them this arvo 😂

I mean two of their easily best players were climbing the walls trying to escape the place. (Lomax & Hunt)

Of course not, it's a team game.

However, if you are getting paid that sort of money there is an expectation..

I was commenting on why Dragons fans may be salty, I know when that was Milford for us, we were all feeling the same way. He won't have that expectation with us, be interesting to see how he is used though.

It’s pretty different. Hunt never stopped trying and played his butt off. Milford was stealing hefty paychecks to stand on a field and watch the game go past him.

Apparently it was a BBQ at the club that led to Hunt coming back.

Tony Spencer must be one hell of a cook on the grill.
Maybe we should’ve offered Sam Walker snags instead of a chicken burger?

Tigers have recruited pretty well for 2025 so they might have passed St George now.

Emotionally scarred from him carrying us to a grand final? Sick of hearing this low iq opinion. Multiple things left to that loss not just a dropped ball, it’s a team sport remember. No hunt that year and no grand final.
Calm down mate. It's emotional scars from him dropping the ball of the kick-off. It's not an opinion, it's what I most remember from that game (probably because it's replayed so many times, and it happened right in front of me).

Didn't say it was all his fault we lost, or that he shouldn't get credit for getting us there. But in mine and others memory, Ben Hunt and the Broncos (unfairly or not) is synonymous with:

Edit: felt depressed just looking at that gif again 😞

100%
You want to talk about moments in that game?

McCollough goes himself on the last, on their try line instead of passing the ball to Parker who strolls over for an easy try and game over.

Next set, multiple times they keep the ball alive because we fail to execute a proper wrap ball and all tackle.

At the end, due to scars, Oates doesn't trust Reed to tackle his man, and Feldt goes in.

The game should have been done right there - Thurston missed a kick - Thurston of all people.

2015 hangs around all of their necks, not just Ben's for 1 error. Lots of errors led to that result.
True. But I remeber that last one the most 😞

I'm a big fan of the singing. You just need to have faith we've done the sums and can afford to upgrade/retain those that are yet to extend with us. My thoughts would be that unless one is willing to take big unders, we probably lose either Cobbo or Staggs.

The amount of dragons games I've watched and came away thinking Hunt was carrying that team and the heart and soul. The guy is 100% effort and professional in every thing he does and if nothing else, the experience and leadership he brings will be massive. That's not to mention he can step up and play 80 mins of 6,7 or 9 no issues at all plus fill a utility bench spot.

However i do think something has to give now with with the excess halfs and hookers on our books. We probably dont target any more big signings but its just a rebalance of the squad. Get a bit of spare cash in case someone explodes this year and needs a top up.

The biggest curiosity for me is what was our backup plan with the Hunt money if he didn't sign? I wonder who the next target was?

Media always has to be negative... can't be positive for all parties can it.

I'm pretty sure Kevvie wanted Dearden to drop back to qcup and get himself some form, but he was in the last year of his deal and wanted to move on.

Seibold fucked the whole situation when he decided to run with the youngest team in history and release half the squad while he was at it.

By 2021 we needed some old heads in the team and we also needed to protect the young guys by taking them out of the furnace.

It's not like he was an instant success at cows either... wasn't he on the longest losing streak for a starting half or something??

Also the 6 we had running around in 2023 won 5/8 of the year... but somehow Bhunt is our Dearden replacement?? Is media having me believe that we've been running around without a 6 for 3 seasons now 🤔🤔

Knocked it back anyway... should've been play on

Not to go full McHunt but the R&R team ultimately does what the coach wants.

The R&R team has unearthed so many good players and under Dave, they’ve put together som really great deals. They lost their way between 2023 and 2024.
It's almost like the buck stops with the coach.
