OFFICIAL Ben Hunt returns home to Broncos on two-year deal

His play during origin is pretty much this... a player that isn't burdened with having to do everything ... he can just go about his work and inject himself where needed and he's become extremely important to the Qld setup.

I agree .
I saw it with Hunt right from the start in NRL . Broncos under the pump then get a penalty . The guy who usually kicks for the line is pushed aside by Ben Hunt . Hunt tries for distance but fails to find touch . Classic example of a Ben Hunt clutch play .Often Chokes when the clutch time comes .
Psychological rather than physical . I am hopeful with less responsibility he can play a role and execute when the time comes .

Bring Milford back and get the 2015 combo happening again!
If we brought milford back and played him off the bench we wouldnt have room for anyone else to sit there. That would probably be the same for the starting spine.

So they should be.

They threw the bank at him, gave him all the support in the world, backed him before they backed any other coach, he was supposed to be their man. One finals appearance?

I'd be salty too.
Hunt hasn't had a quality spine partner since Widdop though you can argue and back then they tended to be quite good for half a season at a time.

Hunts return next year means we haven't gone a full generation of halves since we last won a comp.
Hunt was somewhat the "successor" to Lockyer in the halves.
Maybe the 6 jersey is what he needs to get us to a premiership in 25.

from memory Ben annihilated us in that 2018 final - just setting up tries at will in that final. Haven’t watched the highlights but recall him setting up tariq for multiple infront of my eyeballs. Went on with it after Widdop did his shoulder too.

Was also good in that semi against the Bunnies until the last play.

Milford took up a lot of time. Dearden could’ve been that guy if we weren’t going so shit but oh well. Black & Mam will be good I recon

You know what they say about best laid plans.

It's moreso 2025 that I have concerns over. We were led to believe the Broncos salary cap was tight and yet they can afford a Test player? It doesn't add up, especially since they haven't been offered any dispensation for Mam.

It's not that I think the entire thing will backfire and this will end up costing the Broncos Cobbo, Staggs and Mozer. However I do expect the other shoe to drop at some point and I don't expect it all to go the Broncos way.
If we lose Mozer because of this.....

I think Dearden is a bit overrated. Has a nice dummy and run, puts in the effort and is relatively quick, but otherwise meh. I don't see him carrying a team like Lockyer, Thurston, Cleary, etc.

Seems more like a Wighton type player for me. Similar to Mam (just more consistent).

Hmmm it’s hard to know this with how young
he still is, seems to show impressive improvement year after year currently. Either way he wasn’t going to be the player he is today if he stayed at broncos imo. When we had him it wasn’t working and don’t regret letting go of him at all. He is a Mackay boy so I would dare say he always wanted to play for cowboys all along anyways, glad he is doing well now.

No way we lose Mozer with Paix at the end of his contract. I can't see Madden hanging around either TBH.
I do believe the red pen has been put through Cobbos name already.
That's not to say there is no way back but he has a lot of ground to make up this year to convince the Broncs to stay invested and if he does have a great year he won't be getting 650k if he wants to stay.

Not sure... I've seen a fair bit more of Cobbo in marketing shots than I've seen of Staggs

He is nothing like Mam other than the number on his jersey.

The Kangaroos coach is among those who rate him:

They never get a calendar right, so yeah..
