Ben Hunt vs Ash Taylor

One of the conditions for Ashley Taylor being released was he gets to play first grade. He's getting experience at another teams expense. He's coming back to us, don't worry about that.

Taylor will be better than Hunt by Round 26 this year, let alone in the next few years, he's super good.

Not to say that Hunt isn't when he's in form, he's still a top 5 half when he's running and setting up tries like he was last year, but Taylor is pure class in every aspect.

Edit: Not to mention he's kicking like 95% on the year for conversions, he'd be invaluable to us right now.

Right now Hunt is by far the better option.

By 2018 who knows.

I think if Taylor lives up to his potential he will soar higher than Hunt can.

It's really going to depend on how the Titans go. Given how useless they are, I would say our team will get the best out of our halfback.

I'm very happy we chose to keep Hunt. He's the type of players who is always making the 1% efforts, has the ability to make clutch plays (Roosters game last year anyone?) has a great running game and is a strong defender. The only thing that he really lacks is an A grade kicking game, but even then his kicking isn't bad, it's just not superb.

Taylor looks class, but it's first year, once teams realise he's a good player he will start getting pressured more and might be unable to continue his form when he's getting tired out from constant defence and pressure. Hunt had to deal with being the only real half in the team for a long time and handled that pressure very well, now he has Milford who has grown so much that Hunt no longer needs to do it all.

For mine, the kicking game separates the truly great halves from the very good. On that score, Hunt has this year to prove he he has that element. He has all the other attributes ... once he regains and builds on his other excellent top notch skills.

Taylor already has the kicking game, with the obvious caveat he has only played 8 1st grade games, and still needs a full season at least to show he can match it with Hunt in the other aspects of half back play which nevertheless at this stage, he is showing good signs he can.

Given both will be terrific at running and passing, the kicking game will be the difference. For mine, at THIS point in time, it's speculation, but Taylor is looking pretty bloody good at reaching the very top level, and as I said, this season is Hunt's chance with his kicking game to do the same

Disagree. The ability to break the line and put others through holes is the indicator of a great half.

Have watched every Titans game this year and haven't seen Taylor put one bloke through a hole.

He has a kicking game and not much else at this stage.

At the moment Hunt is a better half by the length of the straight. It's not event close.

Taylor should develop into a better player IMO.

I haven't thought it enough myself to comment other than to say I am happy we have Benny.

Remember when Luke Brooks was the best half coming through and after his first year in the NRL was going to end NSW woes and be a future immortal?

... Yeah.

Like I said, for mine, what you said - and other things - including defence, reading the play in general, etc etc are ALL essential to top tier halves.

What then elevates those halves to the highest level for mine is the kicking game which, even at this very early stage in his career, Taylor is really looking the goods.

As for comparing Taylor to Hunt now in all facets of a half back's game, that's simply unfair. Taylor has played how many 1st grade games?

In fact, this thread should IMO include the word "Potential" somewhere, which applies in different terms both to Hunt, who either hasn't reached his potential as far as his form this year and kicking game in general is concerned (which would be sad), and Taylor, who is still a pup.

... Yeah.

I hate when the media and fans do this so much. You never hear the players talking themselves up it's the media and fans fault. Did you ever hear Brooks pumping himself up?, I can still remember how everyone in a Broncos jersey said how Brett Seymour was a god before he even did anything and he bombed everywhere he went.

Add to that list Brett Seymour, Tim Smith, Aaron Finch, Mitchell Moses, Mitchell Pearce, Ricky Bird, Jace Van Dyk....etc etc

Tough on Moses. He has been very good for the Tigers this year and does look the goods. I like what I see in him. Same with Pearce he is a good player for the Roosters and has won a premiership.
