Ben Hunt

No it doesn't. Hunt was upset because Griffin was sacked....fullstop.
Wayne coming to the Broncos is directly related to Hook being sacked. Don't think it's unrelated...

Of course, this doesn't mean it was Bennett's fault that Hunt considered leaving!

Hunt was only recently re-signed by us ...

if other clubs hadn't put a good offer to him before we locked him up, then they are just plain stupid, especially clubs like the Sharks and Raiders who actually need a quality half.

unlike the media have been spinning for so long, clubs did not have to wait until November to make him an offer.

So i have to ask the question ... if the Raiders (or Sharks) that have plenty of cap space and are screaming out for a half with Hunts talent did not make an offer bigger than the 400k we signed him for, then what they hell were they thinking.

400k a season for a top quality halfback is an absolute bargain ... at the very least, these clubs should have made us have to raise our offer to keep him.

Raiders have Austin now. If you believe the shit the fans dribble about him you could see why they had no interest in hunt lol

Obviously. But this thread and the discussion in it had nothing to do with Wayne bennetts pulling power and nothing anyone said was deserving or had anything to do with your dig

Well, that actually didn't happen, otherwise he might have taken the plunge according to his father... you need to pay more attention mate.

I thought WB's pulling power was something magical out of this world, and every player should get an erection even at the mention of Bennett's interest. Is that not the case?

As if those clubs weren't chasing him though. You don't really think they weren't do you? Sharks are stupid but not that stupid, surely..

Anyone could've been coming to the Broncos to replace Hook, and Hunt still would've considered leaving.

Like Fourex said - he was upset purely about Hook's sacking, it had nowt to do with who was replacing him.

I must have been too subtle, but let's leave it at that and not turn this into a WB vs. Hook discussion...

Ben is coming quite the star. Came on late in the game today and single handedly lifted the team. Maroons next year?

Queensland would be hard pressed to keep him out after this season that's for sure, even with the quality more experienced options available.

Hunt and Milford in the halves, just can't wait!

Can't fit him in unfortunately. DCE really needs to lift his game though if he wants to hang on to his utility spot for QLD. I thought DCE opened up a bit when Hunt came on, for whatever reason.

He's looking more and more confident every game. Excited to see what he can do with Wayne and the gang. Haven't been this excited since the locky days :-)

If it was after a winning season's perhaps, however the current starting pair of Thurston and Cronk are getting on and I think Thurston has dropped off at SOO in recent seasons tbh, I doubt Hunt will get a starting position but I wouldn't rule him out of the bench.

I don't think Thurston is playing bad in SOO, I think its more a case of him and Cronk not having the right combination. Lockyer and Thurston had the best halves combination at representative level, and I really think that't what's affecting Thurston's game. Its more a case of two halfbacks in the team. I think what's most concerning is the lack of quality five-eighths in the NRL. Everyone seems to be halfbacks playing at five-eighth. Since Lockyer there hasn't been a specialist five-eighth.

That being said, I think DCE isn't playing great and I'd like to see Hunt in the starting side against Samoa, with DCE coming off the bench. Hunt definitely added a bit of spark which lifted the team. Hunt seemed to gel nicely with Smith and Cronk, especially since it was his debut game playing with those guys. I'd love to see what he could do with those guys with the more game time.

I think if we ever needed a new hooker and Ashley Taylor is ready for first grade, we could move Hunt to hooker and Taylor to halfback.

Just an idea.

Yeah IMO I think DCE isn't playing all that well either. I have the feeling Ben is sneak into the team next year

Both are 30-31 so neither will be retiring any time soon. Unless DCE REALLY ***** up he won't lose his bench spot imo. I do agree that Thurston has dropped off in recent seasons and Cronk has been underwhelming though.

I'd actually like to see DCE and Hunt starting tbh. It won't happen because it will be a do or die affair, but I think it would be interesting. I think they'd compliment each other well.

Playing badly no, but there has definitely been a difference in the last two series, his last dominate performance was back in 2012 playing 5/8th and that was without Lockyer so I don't see that him being a halfback as being a factor just because his playing 5/8th, he plays there at club level anyway and his still playing great there. Both he and Cronk are getting on, Queensland will want more then Cherry Evans for experienced SOO halves to call upon sooner then later.
