Bennett effect buoys Boyd's NRL career

yeah but remember he had to choose between Union and League, and he chose league and said he'll see how he goes. Bennett gave him 17 minutes in the first 15 rounds or so, so he left. what type of moron gives a guy who everyones pinned as the next big thing 17 minutes in half a season, when hes using that 1 season to decide what he wants to play?

Boyd's been a loss, but at the time Bruno and co had to make a decision, Michaels and Boyd were showing similar potential, and Michaels was chosen - its just been unfortunate that Michaels has gone downhill, and Boyd has skyrocketed...

Rated him during his time at fullback when Hunt was injured he was very solid, from memory i remember a game he starred against Newcastle (if anyone else remembers which game it was refresh my mind..)

At one stage last week when St George played the Tigers, Boyd just just broke through the line as if he was gliding, very reminiscent of Lockyer back in the days..

Since adding a passing game to his arsenal it has upped his game significantly; a joy to watch.

I agree with this. Boyd was ordinary at best for the Broncos, as was Michaels post-injury. Anyway it's all academic now, we have a good young crop of outside backs coming through and Hodges on the way back from injury.

As disappointing as it is, at the time it seemed like the right decision to most whether you want to admit it or not(which hardly anyone will now).

At the time I didn't think it was the right decision and you can check my posts if you don't believe me.

I reckon a lot of people didn't think it was the right decision.

agreed ning. out of kemp, boyd and michaels, at the time, boyd was imo, the best by a mile as i dont REALLY rate kemp and michaels is and always will be shit

This.

Kemp is just another over hyped player who had one good season, so he's God's gift to our team. He's a bit like Hayne really...

Except Hayne did not move to another country to play reserve grade this season.

Because unlike the eels, we have better options than Kemp.

It's a shame those better options left the club or turned out shit. Oh well, Hoffman is looking the goods right now. Lets hope he continues to improve.

Hoffman looks the good so let us not worry about past mistakes and how good Boyd is. Boyd may have been a lesser player had he not been guided by the great man!

I think the whole toilet-gate incident also had something to do with releasing Boyd. Thaiday had come out and apologised and was seen to be trying to make ammends. Both Boyd and Hunt were playing the victims of the piece and well - Hunt was the golden boy at the time, so they cut their losses with Boyd as a way to make some kind of statement. Poor decision in hindsight - but as Coxy said, hindsight is 20/20 vision.

And it was Bennett who **** our recruitment..........
Berrick Barnes says 'hi' from Rugby Union. potentially the biggest loss we've ever had, and the only reason he left was because Bennett wouldnt give him a go.

Berrick Barnes? PUH-LEASE!!!!!!

you think Michaels is a great player though, so you dont exactly hold much weight on opinions of players.

Like Coxy said - Barnes could have played every second of every game he was with the Broncos and he STILL would have gone to union once his Broncos contract was up. He came to league (and the Broncos specifically) for the cash - which was a fair bit more than union was offering at the time - and to raise his profile to get even more cash from Union.

The arguement over whether he was or wasn't the best player we let go is a moot point, as there is nothing we could have done to keep him.

I thought Boyd left because the Broncos didn't 'support' him enough in toiletgate.

What a sooky lala for crying. [icon_evillaugh

Thought he WAS a good player. And he was before the injury.

Meanwhile, how's the major regret of letting Tim Smith go working out?

Berrick Barnes? PUH-LEASE!!!!!!
