Billy Slater should be our next coach and the sooner the better.

He has almost zero coaching experience. That's all you need to know really.
That maybe, but I think his knowledge of how the game is played today is arguably second to none.

Are we trying to get rid of Kevie again? Some of you are a very fickle bunch. How about leveling your expectations a bit and try and look at the big picture. Kevie has taken a pack of misfits, fuckups, has beens and never will be's to a possible playoff spot only a year after they were humbled 46-0 by Souths and had StG put 52 on them.

Last night was a definite 5 steps backwards but the many frailties have always been there, it has just been masked over by individual brilliance and other factors. Kevie has done a wonderful job with a very limited player roster. Things will only improve in the future if the current rate of progression continues.

As for Billy, he is a terrific Ch 9 analyst but his coaching resume consists of three games in which he had the state's best players at his disposal. He would never coach the Broncos anyways, he fucking hates them. If he does venture into club coaching, it'll be with the team he helped become a juggernaut.

I'm pretty sure Billy has been quoted that he doesn't want to be a head coach day-to-day... he said something along the lines of "3 games a year is completely different to week to week coaching... I'm happy being Qld coach at the moment"

I don't think he even applied for the qld role, they went to him and he felt it necessary to do it for the state.

Could Billy be a great head coach? Yep probably... does Billy even want to be a head coach? doesn't seem like it.

I'm not trying to get rid of Kevvie. I think he's doing a fine job, but he is not the coach to take us to a GF. His indecision and complete lack of awareness when it comes to team selection and bench rotation just leaves me scratching my head more and more.

Just like it used to when Seibold picked a winger on the bench

Or when Bennett would play Kenny/Arrow for 10mins off the bench OR not use the 17th man at all... or pick a winger on the bench... or when we were conceding 70m sets with passive defence and refused to wrestle

Or when Griffin continually picked Steve Michaels in the side or continually played with 16 men and leaving the 17th guy on the bench doing nothing all game... or going 1 out conservative griffinball tactics

Every coach does stupid things that leaves us scratching our heads... sometimes it pays off sometimes it doesn't.

To me making a reactive decision to sack a coach, that is primarily there to rebuild the culture and attitude, only to replace him with a shiny new Seibold fresh off the assistant coaching ranks would send us straight back to 2020.

Is Kevvie going to get us to a GF and possibly win one... maybe, but probably not. The club have to be very very fucking careful about how and when they transition from Kevvie so they don't lose the playing group again.

Last I checked (last night) we’d gone past the low 2020 standard. We’re talking 60 points here.

We had bigger losing margins in 2020 and 2019... our biggest losing margins ever in fact and within literal games of each other

Cowboys would be a smokey for Billy.....

Good post above......I agree that KW needs more time.
I wouldn't be surprised by a complete turn around, when Pat come back into the side.....the forwards are missing leadership. Capewll doesn't seem capable on his own.

Still pieces on the board that aren't quite right yet......

Slightly concerning and is a major contributor to our poor performances, is that various players during those games don't stand up when needed to. The effort, desire......still seems a bit MIA at times.

Let's do a quick review of the 2020 season here:

- A 59-0 loss to the Roosters at Suncorp (biggest defeat in club history).

-Another 58-12 loss to the same team.

- A 48-0 annihilation to powerhouse Wests.

- 34% possession vs Parra and Sydney (club records)

- Two crushing defeats to Melbourne. (I don't recall the scores)

- A blown 18 point lead to Manly.

- Most mtrs gained by an opposition prop. Lindsay Collins (272).

- An 11 game losing streak

- Club's first and only wooden spoon in history.

- Most metres conceded to an opposition team in club and NRL history. ( Roosters 2500+).

This is only what I can think of off hand as it is a season that I'm desperately trying to forget.

Don't confuse 2022 with the feats of 2020. Anything negative that happens in the future is an aftershock of that horrible two year tenure under the dipshit affectionately known as "Pies".

I'm assuming it was also our worst ever defensive record at 624pts conceded... although the record may have been saved by only playing 20 games, but still conceding 31.2pt per game, which is probably our worst ever over a season.. and probably our worst differential ever at -356pts (-17.8pts per game).

It was basically on par with wests magpies back in the 90's... and they were fucking atrocious

Please no more 2020 stats my PTSD is playing up.
