a quick read though ol buds activity on twitter we could do with a few less fans like him
Unfortunately for Billy, every time his name comes up 90% of the comments are pretty disparaging. The opposite with Patty.

How dare you.

I'd like to know where Billy would sit if he weren't the coaches son, I doubt he would get anywhere near as much hate and that's how I try to think about it. He's nowhere near the worst in the club, not even in the discussion.

Sorry but he is the worst in the starting team and probably worst in our most picked 17 - though it’s flip a coin with Paix. I think Paix is better but that’s open to debate. Maybe Riki?

He isn’t worse than say - Palasia maybe? I’m not sure who is below him in our top 30.

I don’t criticise him because he’s the coaches son. I criticise him because he isn’t NRL standard but keeps getting picked. I criticised Isaako, Turpin, and Niu for the same reason and was probably more brutal in my opinion of their ability.

It would just be confusing if he wasn’t the coach’s son though. This no name who had played a dozen games by the age of 28 suddenly becomes a mainstay and must pick while his competition drop like flies around him. It wouldn’t make any sense.

If he were lucky he'd be sitting on the bench for the Tigers.

Him being the coach's son is implied when you try to rationalize why he's even in the Top 30. Absent of his father, it's hard to know whether he'd have been elevated from QLD Cup if he were plying his trade there. He would be competing with Ezra. It was his father who tried to fashion him into a 9 after he was already in our top 30.

I think that's fair enough, it's those who just can't get their head around who his dad is and that's where their negative views come from.

Everyone knows exactly who his dad is though and it’s the single biggest part of the problem.

The one certain way to remove any talk of nepotism is to undoubtedly be the best 9 at the club (forgetting, for this discussion, that he came to the club as a 6).

The fact it’s highly debatable is bad enough, but when you consider who his competition is, the optics of it are just terrible no matter where the truth lies.

There is a reason no one says anything about the Cleary’s. However, you can bet if the Chin were to start shitting the bed, yet still got picked, the same comments would come in thick and fast.

Don't hear much about it at Parramatta either.

Unfortunately the club just can't go out and buy some rep quality 9, there aren't many available and in a couple of years Mozer will be our main man. It was always the question that went unanswered by the nepotism believers, who do you bring to the club to replace him? Never really got an answer to that one, easier to deflect and continue to whinge about Billy being Kevvie's son.

I think Billy is a fairly reasonable top 30 NRL squad member. I would say he could pass as a back up 5/8 or hooker, maybe even score a 20 minute bench utility role at a struggling club.

But getting 40+ minutes as our starting 9 is a bit of a stitch up.

This post is half error and half lie.

The error is that the Eels went into full meltdown over Jacob Arthur. Even more so than the broncos fans did Billy.

the lie is that no alternatives have been offered. I’ve just stopped offering them because my several detailed posts about options only resulted in comments like yours saying that no one has offers options.

I’ll give you 2 options right now - Smoothy and Paix.

Paix isn't an upgrade on what we've all seen in the NRL.

Smoothy, that's a wait and see.

The bold is a joke right? The vitriol Jake Arthurs copped was as bad, if not worse, than what Billy is copping.

To answer your other question; I would have kept Levi, a genuine 9, and that was well before Billy was pencilled in to become the first choice 9 for the biggest RL club in the world. But if not Levi, Turpin put more into the club than Billy has and was just as equally as dull at 9.

But I’m sure they gave Billy, who is 2 years older than Turpin, a 2 year contract extension because he has far more upside than Turpin…

I would have kept Albert Kelly, who is far better cover for the halves, over Billy in a heartbeat too.

He could have. He's not long come back from an ACL surgery. Not much you can say for Turpin, he was just a tackling machine, didn't provide anything in attack.

I notice you didn’t keep on the Eels nepotism path.

And you have the gall to claim others are deflecting…
