Boyd snaps Achilles - Replacement?

We are still better off with Barba & Hoffman gone, neither delivered what we needed yet people want them back? short memories.

Milford will stay at 5/8 and like Pete said, we still have good options for fullback until Boyd returns.

The sky is not falling ffs.

No, we want a fullback. Super simple stuff.

And his exact quotes:

certainly doesn't sound like he meant "next season", does it?

It was in reference to 2015 and his move to the Broncos. It even says it in the headline of the article. Fair dinkum...

did anyone who is suggesting hodges should be fullback actually watch hodges play fullback this year? He is atrocious in defense from the back. he cant field grubbers to save his life, cant catch bombs, and may as well not even be there when he attempts one on one tackles near the line. if he's our fullback until boyd comes back we're in trouble.

Haha and Milfords defense was amazing at the back ;) I've never seen someone more out of position or coming over so late to let through a try!

Hi guys,

Just checked YouTube for footage on Greg Eden. He could be the man to replace Darius. In one game I saw him make a tackle bust and set up a try so he could have the skills we need. Offers more than Maranta that's for sure.

Milford would probably say he's happy playing prop. He's a good egg like that.

And who gives a **** where Milford says he wants to play? If Hoffman wanted to play five eight you wouldn't do that.

Obviously Milford can be a quality five eight but for mine he's a better fullback.

But regardless of where he does play it's pointless to say he prefers either position and what position he prefers really doesn't matter.

Who is our one player most similar to Inglis? Corey Oates.

It seems like when people think of 5/8ths, they think of them in the past, not modern ones. The modern fullback is a 5/8th, with even more freedom.

We have two options here.

1: Move Milford to fullback as he has all the skills a modern fullback after signing him to partner Hunt in the halves.

2: Keep Milford in the halves and try someone else there. Eden is a specialist fullback (I believe) and there is Kahu and Maranta in the squad who I believe can fill the void but not as well as Boyd could.

I would personally go with option number 2 as moving Milford away from the halves would stuff our attack and we would have to field an out of position or rookie 5/8th to partner Hunt. We have been working for ages to get a good halves pairing and the Milford/Hunt one is a beauty and I would stick with it. We just have to stick to our guns and go with who we've got. This is where Hoffman would have come in handy, he isn't the god of fullbacks of course but I thought he was solid at the back at the very least.

At least he gets there unlike Hodges who is nowhere to be seen most times lol.

Who wrote the headline? Milford? The Courier Mail wrote the headline, and nothing Milford says indicates he want to play in the halves in 2015 or even the next few years.

Read the quotes from Milford and find where it says in 2015 he wants to play halves. He specifically says, and I quote:

At the moment I'm liking fullback, but probably further down the track I'd like to end up in the halves
so I guess further on as I get bigger I'd love to go there

There is literally no way you can read that as "next year I want to play in the halves". None whatsoever. He says that "further down the track" he'd like to play in the halves, "as he gets bigger". Neither of those are even remotely "next year I want to play in the halves".

I'd consider throwing Hodges into the 6 and playing Milford at fullback.

Can't get over people saying that someone somehow deserves this. I happily argued Boyd didn't deserve our fullback gig, but from all appearances and reports he's overcome a serious illness and was about to get his life back on track. I hope this setback doesn't send him back into depression as it seems to me the kind of thing that could instigate it. But he, nor Bennett, absolutely did not deserve this to happen. Particular Darius.

As for what happens now. A key response whenever I argued for Taylor was that you don't give up a year just to let a rookie settle in. Well, now we have a chance to do that anyway. I hope we take it, but I know it won't be that.

It'll probably end up being Milford at 6 and Hodges at 1. My realistic hope now is that Jayden plays from the bench and for a period of about 20mins in the 2nd half so we can shift Milf to 1 and Jayden to 6 in the event we are chasing the game.

Personally I would only really consider Kahu and the Nikorima brothers in a position to fill the fullback position, although someone like a Carlin could be given a chance, given his attacking prowess for Ipswich.

If milford is going to be the long term 5/8 why bother shifting him, needs all the game time in the position he can get. Id prob shift hodgo back, or Greg Eden if he has a good preseason.
