Hey Guys, this is my first time on this website. I was just wondering what you think the Broncos Auckland 9's team is going to be?

Welcome aboard BroncosFan!

I'm not overly familiar with the 9s concept but I'd imagine the team would look something like...

Ben Barba
Josh Hoffman
Jordan Kahu
Daniel Vidot
Ben Hunt
Josh McGuire
Andrew McCullough
Alex Glenn
Matt Gillett

I'd be interested to see what a traditional formation looks like.

First of all welcome to the forums. I feel the team will be something like this

Backs:

1: Ben Barba
2: Josh Hoffman
3: Justin Hodges
4: Jack Reed

Half:

Anthony Milford or Ben Hunt

Forwards:

1: Sam Thiaday
2: Matt Gillett
3: Corey Parker
4: Josh McGuire

Hodges? No way in hell. Even if he is match fit, we aren't going to risk him for the fucking Auckland 9's. Personally, I hope we don't risk any of our crucial players to this crap.

I don't think Hodges is game ready, so he won't make an appearance. I do however think we need to put some stars on show. This is to move the game forward and get more people interested.

It'll probably be about speed and agility more than anything else. I can't see guys like Thaiday and Parker doing well in this format (they'll probably be given a break after the World Cup anyway), and I'd assume that there will be only a couple of mobile forwards on at a time.

If fit I'd expect the Barba brothers, Copley, Kahu, Oates, Vidot, Hunt, Granville and Gillett to feature (Glenn too unless he's given a rest). McGuire has excellent speed and agility for a prop so I can see him getting a run too. Hopefully we can beat Parramatta, though I think the Bulldogs and Roosters will have us covered.

Yeah....Bmans made a blue naming Hodges. No way on god's green earth will he be playing in the 9's (even if he didn't end the year injured)

I wouldn't have Thaiday either. Glenn would be a better option.

1: Ben Barba

3: Corey Oates

1. Barba
2. Vidot
3. Hoffman
4. Barba

5. Hunt

6. Oates (seriously, quick skillful the perfect nines forward)
7. Gillett
8. Glenn
9. McGuire

We could/would win it.

I doubt we will name a full team of our top 13 players. It will probably be something like this
1. Bond
2. Drew
3. Mills
4. M.Barba
5. B.Barba
6. Oates
7. Lowrie
8. Gibb
9. Molo

I expect the team will be made out of our high profile players hence why I named Hodges.

If we aren't going to name a strong team and try and win it, why even bother competing? I'm with Broncoman in the expectation it will be a high profiled team just not with him on the Hodges part.

I just don't think the players named would be suitable for the 9s comp. I don't think the players in the teams you guys have chosen, the established players, are quick enough, fit enough and good enough defenders. And I think the team I've chosen would beat the teams you've named. Aso, I don't think many World Cup players will participate.

9s will be less about defending and more about scoring as many points as you can as quickly as you can. Guys like Glenn, Gillett and McGuire will hit the smaller lines well and hopefully offload to the quicker backs who have little work to do.

A good forward who draws in 3 defenders gives a quick back miles of space from anywhere on the field.

Molo scores tries left, right and centre in the under 20s. He's a quality forward. Maybe swap Gibb for Glenn and Lowrie for Gillette if they're wanting to play but the backline I named would be insane against 9 players! Scoring as many points as you can in a short amount of time is exactly the reason Thaiday and Mcguire won't be good in this comp. Maybe if Reed is fit he could play in the forwards as well.

Acccording to the All-Time Players roster (ie a list of previous players) Gibb is no longer with the club.

On the topic of star players, I remember reading a while back that there is a rule in which a certain number of players in the team must be 'star' players or top tier players in order to stop clubs from sending a U20's or fringe player squad over. I think the Storm wanted to prevent Slater, Smith and Cronk from playing, but the NRL put this rule or whatever in to make sure this competition is not devalued.

In any case, I'd expect most teams would send decent squads over with fairly experienced players, with probably a handful of fringe players.

He posted on Instagram that he was heading back to training a few days ago and tagged a few Broncos players in it too.

I'm not super familiar with 9s either but I imagine the best balance would see 3 forwards, 1 hooker, 1 half and 4 backs. there would be far more of a focus on speed and mobility than grunt work. Besides, a back like Vidot could easily take hitups if you desperately needed it.

1. Ben Barba
2. Jack Reed
3. Jordan Kahu
4. Josh Hoffman

5. Ben Hunt

6. Matt Gillett
7. Jake Granville
8. Alex Glenn
9. Corey Oates

Extras: Vidot, McGuire, McCullough, M. Barba, Bond

someone like Bond might be a neat left field selection.
