It's important to remember that under our Baghdad Bob regime the previous 2 years it seemed like there were no players that improved and plenty that regressed, even those responsible for individual feats of awe such as Staggs and Fifita had plenty of defensive errors and games they went missing, swept along with the tide of mediocrity.

It would be reasonable to go slow on the recruiting whilst we see how many of those titanics on big bucks we can turn around and how many have already hit the iceberg... Anyway that's me with the happy colour glasses on trying to view the current situation :)

Cartwight and Matterson Join Coaching Team​

Premiership-winners John Cartwright and Terry Matterson have been locked in as Kevin Walters’ assistant coaches at the Brisbane Broncos for 2021.

Matterson is a dual title-winner in 155 first grade games with the Broncos, as well as a former Castleford Tigers head coach in the English Super League and an NRL assistant coach at both the Cowboys and Titans, while Cartwright was foundation coach of the Titans, an NRL assistant coach at Manly and the Cowboys, as well as a premiership winner in 1991 as a backrower with Penrith.

The pair bring vast experience to the Club’s football structure under Walters as he enters his first year as Broncos Head Coach in 2021.

Walters said: "I am looking forward to working with both of them – they’re both good people and very good at their craft, which is what we need.”

“John was head coach at the Titans and has won a premiership at the Cowboys in 2015 as an assistant coach, while Terry has had great success overseas as a head coach and obviously knows the Broncos very well.
"They both had great playing careers and are premiership-winners – the big thing for the Broncos is that we need good people around the players and around myself and the staff, and we have found them in John and Terry.”

Kurt Richards is Walters’ other assistant coach with a focus on player skills and the transition of footballers from lower grades into the NRL.

In another change to the Broncos football operations, Head of Performance Paul Devlin has left the Club to return to Sydney, and a recruitment process for this role has begun.

Broncos CEO Paul White said: “I want to acknowledge the professionalism and dedication that Paul has demonstrated over the last two years – he has developed great relationships and is well-regarded across the Club. Everyone at the Broncos wishes Paul and his family all the best in the future.”
