Broncos 2020 Squad

We will be the premier club in the comp when the last of the old guard (Smith and Politis) retires. This squad can, and should, make the top 4 next year, and that's with three absolute passengers taking up 1.5 mil+ of the cap.

The halves situation in the NRL is a joke atm, and Dearden has the potential to be top tier. If he can play his role like he did in limited game time this year then I'm optimistic. If he can't handle it or gets injured before SOS is back then yeah we're in trouble. I still think it's dumb that we're pinning our hopes on a 19 year old, but it is what it is.

EDIT: I think you'll see Souths slide down the ladder big time next year, Melbourne will begin to disintegrate, and the rorters will struggle a bit without Cronk and will be around 7-8th if Keary chokes with the organising role/ gets injured (he had 5ish weeks off with concussion last year). The Eels for mine SHOULD be a side who surges up the ladder with the state of their squad as should we.

I can see Souths doing ok tbh if Jai ends up there.

In general, anything less then a top 4 spot and a preliminary final is a failure for our club.

I have tempered expectations for the 2020 Broncos, I see us finishing about around the lower-middle 8 with a few points to spare. If we're not pushing top 4 in 2021 and ditching our cap deadweight, then I suspect Siebold might not be the coach for us.

Well my expectations are high. There is so much talent and class in this side and the experience of 2019 has taught valuable lessons. I think it is way premature and foolish to dismiss the quality of our roster.

The important thing for me is that Seibold will have a lot more influence on the roster as the effects of the Bennett years wane, and players adjust to this. I don't think the effects of the Bennett years can be underestimated whatever one thinks of him. His style of coaching was radically different to Seibold's and more significantly, his tenure at the Broncos impacted so much on the roster, game plan and individual performances.

It takes time and a lot of work to change culture and mindset. I think Seibold is good enough to do just this and again, we have the players to be a real force in 2020.

Having said that, I do have a worry about the serious structural weakness in the team and we all know what it is. It must be fixed. That will be Seibold's greatest challenge. When he does that, and I bet he will, then I reckon top 4 is quite achievable and I am really looking forward to watching our great team shine in 2020.

With the current roster, a playoff spot in 2020 will be a real struggle. If anything, the Broncos overachieved last season. Sure, there are a couple of gun forwards but the spine is still the worst in the comp and there are still too many uncertainties amongst the playing squad. Not to mention that the coach appears to be a total fraud and I am doubtful that he could ever turn this club into a contender. I'm hoping the summer drags along this year because I am dreading the winter.

Sadly, I think you're going to be right. I just have zero confidence we're going to have any real improvement this year and if Seibold's plan is to rest our hopes on Dearden carrying the team as a 19 year old, I can only see us being even worse next year.

Who knows, an off season can be a long time but if we're running out with the same roster, we'll probably end up with the same amount of wins next year but won't be as lucky to make the 8 with a negative winning percentage.

I think we'll improve - we certainly couldn't go any worse than the shit show of this year. Hopefully our 6 stays in 6 for the whole season and the foolish fullback experiment is finished for good.

Well we are rather short on halves so if the status quo remains he has to go back there.

I'd say we lost games we were expected to win, more then we won games we were expected to lose. If we over achieved last season, then the reverse would be true.

Hell we gave Titans and Dragons wins!

For us to have a chance at making the 8 this year we basically can't have any injuries. Especially in the halves positions. An injury to Milford basically ends our season.

The Cowboys should do better next year, and I think the tigers will too. If we pick an actual head 17 (that doesn't include Boyd, and has Macca on the bench, if at all) then that 17 is good. But an injury to Dearden or Milford and we have no depth to cover it.

2020 will be just as bad if not worse if the coach insists on playing out of form players who don't deserve to lace up.

The team was looking 10x better before McCullough returned at 9. Dearden and Turpin must start in their respective positions.

Sadly I don't think there's anyone better to replace Boyd at fullback. Isaako is starting to remind me that Beale and Hoffman walked because they thought they were fullbacks but weren't even close. Can only hope Isaako is happy to stay on the wing.

If that article that foxsports ran today about Smith being the Storms halfback next year is true then Croft will be our halfback next year for sure.

That's pretty well true for every team's highest paid/ best player in the spine though

Storm with CS9
Parra with Moses
Roosters with Keary or Teddy
Souths with Cook
Panthers with Cleary
Tigs with Brooks
Titans are shit but still finished with the spoon and no Ash
Drags lose Norman then they're reliant on Bhunt
Sharks with SJ
Manly with Cherry
Knights with Ponga
EDIT: warriors would be fucked if they lost RTS

Probably only doesnt apply to:
Canberra with Hodgson or Wighton (Hodgson was injured last season)
Cows with Morgan (Morgan is overrated and Clifford could be better anyway)
Dogs only because who knows who the **** is in their spine

Warriors maybe not because their highest paid is Green (they would lose their game manager though)

Warriors highest paid player would be RTS not Blake Green and Newcastle didn't even need to lose Ponga, they lost Pearce and fell over

True forgot about RTS... they would be even more fucked if they lost him.

According to this Ethan Bullemore, Kobe Hetherington, Jordan Leigh (Riki), Fanitesi Niu, Pride Petterson at our development players. Room for one more. Also says Boyd's contract next year is MO, mutual option, so if the club doesn't want him he's done.

Interesting looking at that , with so many players uncontested for 2021 I reckon 2020 is still a rebuild year.... the guys who step up this year will get contracts for 21 and that will be the year we push for the premiership.

Everyone else see ya later billy Slater

Sooo many junktards with one year left on their contracts chewing up our roster space. It's infuriating.

Bird - 2020 - Very likely GONE
Boyd - 2020 - GONE
Hopoate -2020 - Very likely GONE
Kahu - 2020 - GONE
Kennar - 2020 - 50/50 leaning GONE
McCullough - 2020 - GONE
Shibasaki - 2020 - Very likely GONE
Vudogo - 2020 - 50/50 leaning GONE
