Broncos Confirm 2018 Trials

Hoffman never had too much agility about him but Issako does he’s got some good footwork. Issako knows he can pass the ball once it’s in his hands as well unlike Hoffman.
Be honest - when Hoffman came into FG, how old were you?

The Hunters trial is up on the Broncos site in 4 quarters

Did the Hunters not get the memo about the play the ball? lol

Hoffman had a strong straight run on him especially in the wing.
You didn't answer my question, I suspect you were in single digits or thereabouts in 2010.

Hoffman had excellent agility. His problem was he was a ballhog and thought he was better than he was. Wanted things his way instead of playing for the team. Thought he should be fullback instead of playing on the wing (and doing well). Also wanted first crack at 5/8 after Lockyer retired.

Let’s say this then I have a 8 year old son, IMO then I just seen him as a player with an ok step but a good line runner.

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT? Do you really? I mean, are yu sure he isn't just a younger brother?

I don't think the Sims 4 counts as real kids :D

You need to go back and watch some highlights, because Hoffman was phenomenal on the wing... hence why sooo many were pissed off to see him leave chasing a FB spot only to get shafted to the wing time and again

Isaako has really impressed me in the two trial games. Shows a lot of confidence and flair and that is what we need. I really really like the look of him

His defence is poor imo. He doesn't put much into it. Jonus is a great defender and really muscles guys.

I do like our attacking speed with Isaako out the back though, very quick.

And he doesn't smile lol

Star fullback Darius Boyd overcomes hamstring injury, will lead Brisbane in Round 1

BRONCOS captain Darius Boyd has been cleared for takeoff.
Boyd will start at fullback in Brisbane’s NRL premiership season opener against the Dragons next Thursday despite sitting out all of the club’s trial matches.
The 30-year-old’s absence from Brisbane’s entire pre-season trial campaign raised questions about the Test and Origin star’s troublesome hamstring.
SWITCH: Will Cronk miss the Storm?
SKIPPER: James ready to lead once again

Boyd, signed with the Broncos until 2021, did not play in Papua New Guinea on Saturday in the Broncos final trial match against the Hunters.
However, Brisbane medical staff have given Boyd the green light to lead the Broncos in Round 1.
“He should be fine — we have gone pretty cautious there,” Broncos high performance boss Jeremy Hickmans said.

Boyd has not played a trial during the pre-season.
“With what we’ve done over the last few weeks, he could have played on the weekend.
“We had the discussion but thought ‘does he really need to?’ There was a lot of travel and other things we did in PNG. It was a risk we didn’t need to take.
“With the fact he’s got a fair bit of experience, we thought we’d err on the side of caution. I’m sure he’s ready to go.”
Boyd’s 2017 finals campaign was cruelled by a hamstring injury suffered in Brisbane’s final round match against the Cowboys.
He missed the Broncos’ first two finals, courageously returning in the heavy preliminary final defeat to eventual premiers Melbourne in which he was clearly hampered.
The injury caused Boyd to withdraw from Australia’s World Cup campaign and his pre-season was tracking strongly until a hiccup in January.
Boyd, a veteran of 267 NRL games, was placed on modified training and despite returning to full running three weeks ago, Broncos staff opted to rest him from their trial campaign.
Hickmans said while Boyd had been medically cleared to return, it would take time for him to regain confidence in his hamstring.

The Broncos skipper will form a crucial combo with Anthony Milford.
“He’s been doing everything pretty much for the last three weeks,” he said.
“For a period of time we will modify his running loads and look after him that way.
“He has been going really well. We’ve been taking him out of skills to do some specific running at times. We haven’t had any dramas or problems that way.
“The biggest thing for him now is that little bit of confidence. When he had that little tighten up a month ago it knocked his confidence a little bit.”
Boyd’s hamstring concerns prompted club legend Gorden Tallis to call for him to move to five-eighth to prolong his career.
Coach Wayne Bennett knocked back suggestions Boyd will be shifted from fullback, and the 28-Origin star will wear Brisbane’s No. 1 jersey in Round 1 as he enters his second season as Broncos skipper.

Isaako has a long way to go before he can be considered a Josh Hoffman upgrade. Isaako has played 1 NRL game. Hoffman has played 171 NRL games. I would say he is a poor man's Hoffman at the moment. We'll see if he improves on that.
Let’s be serious here; there’s a really good chance Isaako has thrown more passes in his 1 NRL game than Hoffman in his 171.

Jokes aside, Hoffman could have been a really good winger for us, but his ego was never going to let him succeed out there.
The Broncos have never been a club for players with such attitudes, so I couldn’t have been happier when he left.

Oates Pleased With Dual Stint

February 26, 2018

COREY Oates is ready to be deployed wherever the Broncos need him after impressing at both second row and on the wing last weekend.

Oates came off the bench and played as an edge second rower against the PNG Hunters in Port Moresby.

He then finished the match on the wing and showed his usual finishing ability to score a try out wide as the clock wound down.

He has now proved to himself that he can play in either position.

Just where that will be is up to coach Wayne Bennett as the Broncos eye next week's NRL season opener against the Dragons.

"I felt really good today," said Oates after the match.

"In Toowoomba (against the Titans last week) I found it hard to get going.

"But I was really happy today - I felt like I had a lot more energy.

"Although not a lot of ball came my way, I was happy with my talk and movement.

"That's what it is is - getting some confidence in myself to know I can still go hard in the middle or on the edge.

"I was happy th the finish on the wing too.

"I was happy to get the stint in both positions and really happy with the performance."

Jamayne Isaako has also put his hand up for inclusion on the wing against the Dragons, setting up a try against the Hunters.

Isaako has spent the trials at fullback, but with Darius Boyd fit to play in round one, he will be hoping to earn a berth on the flank.
