Broncos could struggle to keep Gillett

I reckon if Gillett decides to take the money and head to a NSW team (Can't blame him honestly, this'll be his big contract, he has to do what's best for him), I say we don't put a fight, let him go, it solves a LOT of a our positional constraints, and will give us a little bit of wiggle room salary cap wise next season, with Barba and Kennedy completely off our books.

I say we should throw whatever Gillett was on at Josh Mansour, and move Oates to the vacant right back row spot. If Mansour is off the table, there's still several centres / wingers off-contract next season that would fit in nicely.

Antonio Winterstein, Brenko Lee, Justin O'Neill, Marika Koroibete.

I would be disappointed if we did end up losing Gillett, particularly considering Parker is closing in on retirement. The club has invested so much time and effort into Gillett I would hate to see all that go on to benefit another club when he is just hitting his prime.

I just have this feeling that Parker may get the tap on the shoulder for Gillett to stay........I know there has been talk of Parker extending for another year but if push come to shove I just can't see Wayne giving Parker that year if its at the expense of losing Gillett.

I too think Parker could retire sooner rather then late. But in saying that...Corey is the type of team man that Imo would take a pay cut to play one last year being that he just loves playing footy but also the fact he works for fox sports as well. Maybe that's what's happening and that's why he's signed a manager to work out the fine print ect. .

I like Winterstein, and think he's a good all round winger. But did you see him chasing Roberts when he scored, he seriously looked like his legs were tied together.

Winterstein is 27, so he's not exactly a young bloke anymore. I rate him as well and was upset to see him leave the Broncs, but glad he found a long term home at the Cows. He's not the flashiest, but he will rarely let you down either.

Having said that, I think Roberts makes anyone look slow. He looped around the back during Milf's break against the Cows and was still only in a canter until he got the ball....he has some serious fucking pace!! And speed also = power as we saw with his break through the line as well...

Back on topic, Gillett for mine is one of the premier second rowers in the comp. His form this year has been outstanding. As much as I like Glenn, and he's been in good form too, I'd sooner lose him than Matt if push came to shove. Same for Parker - he deserves to go out on his own terms as long as he's still playing well - but I would hope as a good clubman (as he is) that he wouldn't stand in Gillett's way either.

Please just stop! :s:

There's only one player I wouldn't let go for Gillo. You probably guessed who... Milford

I will be ropeable if lose Gillet, especially if Glenn is still on our books.

Not really
all it comes down to win gillett is money
with nikorima it was not only about money it was about first team opportunities and who he was stuck behind
bennett would not have been able to guarantee that

I bet the report 200k a season the Roosters threw at Nikorima had alot to do with his departure as well. Very hard for a player who has only played under 20s to turn down that sort of coin, especially from a side that has been as strong as the roosters have been.

If we lose Gillett so be it, as good as he is we have an embarrassment of riches in the back row.

Gillett
Glenn
Parker
Thaiday
Arrow
TPJ
Hipgrave
Oates
Timu

I would rather lose Gillett than 3 others to keep him. And if he leaves, then good luck to him, if he stays then great. We are now in a position where we can cover the loss of almost any player. We are getting back to only our halves being hard to replace, but with Nikorima even that blow would be less damaging than in the past. Milford would probably be the only player that would hurt us big time if he wasn't there. So as good as Gillett is if he leaves I won't be worried

if we lose gillet we should move oates into the second row and purchase a good winger

I don't think Brisbane have ever recruited a first grade winger from another club that was really good

Wasn't Folau playing on the wing when we got him?

Right centre.

Turner and Quinn were the (NSW) wingers.

We then proceeded to waste him on the wing where he became the consolation try scoring king.

Oh and he hated the Titans (7 tries in 2 games).

Transition Oates into the centers eventually. Even if Gillett goes, there are still Ese'ese, Timu, TPJ, Hipgrave, Arrow, et al waiting in the second row. Oates could be a devastating center!

The one winger I'd be happy with in this scenario would be Mansour.

But overall I still can't believe how many people are willing to just give away an actual international level second-rower with as much as a 'eh. oh well'. I understand we have a lot of players in the backrow, but we have Sam + Corey who are on their last couple of seasons, including this one, and a lot of young guys we'd all like to see come through and show what they can do. But can they rise that quickly to NRL standard and fitness? (yes they have to play to get there I know). Gillett is playing 80 mins and effectively.

I've made no secret I love the guy, and rate him far above Glenn, but even a neutral would be struggling to accept the reasoning of letting him go purely for half-proven potential's sake, especially with some other certain dead weight hanging around the club.

If we want to see the young guys get a crack and believe they have a future here if they stick around long enough, I suggest we look at the bench. I think Wallace is the one to lose his place, or perhaps if Kodi gets lured to Sydney (which believe me I don't want to happen either), his bench role becomes another forward spot and Macca just plays 80, which he's capable of doing. We might lose that attacking spark, but our defence should hold more consistently and we can instead get some better dominance in the forwards

Terrible idea. That buffoon Griffin did just that, moving a too young Oates into that position with dreadful results. We can pick up a foot soldier or promote internally but weakening a strength is never a good idea.
