A hurting Alex Glenn says Brisbane's 42-point loss to the Melbourne Storm was one of the most embarrassing moments of his career.

A crowd of over 44,000 gathered at Suncorp Stadium to watch the Broncos, but with more than 10 minutes to go that number had almost halved as Brisbane fans streamed out the gates.

They had seen enough, leaving in droves as the Broncos suffered their equal worst loss at home, matching the previous record set against Melbourne at QE II in 1999.

Glenn spoke emotionally after the match, and he said seeing the fans leave early was the worst thing about the 48-6 demolition.

"It doesn't sit well with me," Glenn said.

"One thing that I never want to see is our fans leaving before the full-time whistle. A lot of them were going and that hurts to see.

"At the end of the day it cuts deep when you lose by that much in front of your own fans.

"We're better than that and we need to make sure the next time we play we come out a lot harder."

Glenn tried hard all night, running for 139 metres in the centres, a position he was forced to play due to Brisbane's rising injury toll.

Usual backs Jordan Kahu and Jack Reed both missed the match and that meant the Broncos' left edge was exposed all night.

An early injury to star winger Corey Oates compounded Brisbane's woes, with back-up hooker Kodi Nikorima having to fill in on the wing.

It meant the Broncos' left edge were forced to play a hooker on the wing, a second-rower in the centres and 18-year-old Jaydn Su'A starting in the second row.

Glenn admitted it was tough to lose Oates early but he also made a point to credit two of the Storm's best, with Cameron Smith and Cooper Cronk exploiting Brisbane's left edge all night.

"It was very tough losing Corey early," he said.

"I'm pretty vulnerable in the centres and I was a bit hesitant when it came to what my role was.

"Oates brings a lot on that wing and I give full credit to Cameron Smith and Cooper Cronk for their efforts to exploit that. They noticed that we lost him on the wing and capitalised on that."

Next up for the Broncos is the bye and then following that they face a trip to ANZ Stadium to face the South Sydney Rabbitohs on July 16.

Kahu is expected to be back for that clash, and Glenn says the New Zealand international will be a much-needed addition to the struggling Brisbane side.

"Jordy coming back will be of huge benefit to our backline. He brings a lot to our team," he said.

"He was close to coming back this week, but there was that risk that if he played and hurt himself again then we he would have been out a lot longer.

"Although we did miss him tonight, missing him one game is better than losing him for the rest of the season.

"We haven't had a good run with injuries this year, but we just need to make sure we are doing everything we can to treat our bodies well and work hard each day."
